djjhart@aol.com D/l very well could be the culprit I have no idea. Even if I bought the disks I still have to download x1a , Thats the reason why I opt out of buying the disk.BTw I don't hook my DAW up to the internet ever, I only use my Macs for internet surfing/ downloading ,then I transfer everything via an External . I been burnt years ago learned my lesson . NO internet .I Never had a virus in 20 years with my macs. Pc's well thats another story.. Yes, it's a shame that cake (and many others) do not publish the md5 checksum for their downloads. I work largely with large systems (Sun-Oracle IBM HP Unix) and linux etc., all the downloads for their O/S, Apps, patches etc provide a checksum so you can verify your download before you install/apply it. If cake supplied an Md5, then everyone could easily verify the integrity of their downloads with confidence. Unfortunately, if a download does corrupt (which DOES happen sometimes) they can sometimes even appear to successfully install. I don't know if that's the case with the cakewalk stuff, but it certainly is the case with some stuff. I think I'll take that up with tech support, since it's a simple thing for them to implement and there are free md5 checkers available for Windows. Good luck. Cheers - Cliff

FYI, recently my ISP had some issues and almost anything I downloaded was corrupt (though easy to figure out). So there are periods when an ISP or a "store" (like CW's), etc, CAN be having issues and you may not know it for awhile. BUT if a download is zipped or rar'd, etc, it usually will spot a corupt file when trying to unpack. bundled 'exe' files are not so simple.

why? the download is available but it's not required. if you buy the disks you don't have to download. I had problems with the download so when my disks arrived I installed from them. I'm not saying that is your problem, I just wanted to make sure it's clear that buying the download + the disks does not mean you have to download. so when x1b is released they will send you the update via mail on a disc? is that what they did with x1a? I thought the physical disc only contained the original installer. If thats so Im ordering right now for $20

no, I'm pretty sure X1b will be download only. your post reads very sarcastic. I have no intention of getting into an argument here. I was mearly pointing out that you didn't have to download the original if you ordered the disks. If there's a problem with that then I will gladly not show up here again.

When you do a clean install, make sure you install all the latest drivers for your mobo before installing anything else including Windows updates, sound card drivers, video card drivers. Also, sometimes your system will work better if you use the legacy drivers for your FW port on your motherboard. Sometimes the new Windows 7 driver can cause problems but not always. Something to keep in mind though. Read this PDF. Has good info. Tells you how to roll back the FW driver too.

I write faster than my brain sometimes.. accepted - sometimes it's difficult to know what someone is really saying just from reading typed words on a page! I'm "an engineer's certain" (that's usually 99.99%!) that x1b will be a download. and I heard a rumor it will be out soon.
