X1 strange behavior

Anyone ever see anything like this before?

You'll notice it has no files in it and just a black screen to where I can't even right click on it. There actually ARE audio and midi files in this project...they just disappeared. LOL! This happened a few times tonight and I'm not sure what is causing it. Removed sonar helper and Panups color mod just to make sure it wasn't anything to do with them. No dice, it still came back.

What's weird is, there is nothing wrong with the project. It plays perfect, exports perfectly and everything in Sonar works except nothing in the "file" area is visible and I have no right click ability in that center pane. I shut down Sonar, bring it back up and I'm good for about 2 hours before it does it again. I haven't done anything new to my system and rolled back all the hot fixes just to be sure. This is so weird! It's not doing it on my main recording pc's though, so that's good. But all of a sudden, it doesn't seem to like my net pc too much and that's where I mess with ideas most of the time. Any ideas? Thanks. :)

Looks like it might be a Picture Cache problem.  Go into Preferences  - Audio - Configuration file.  About 7 boxes from the bottom is PicCacheMB.  The number there may be to small.  I have mine set at 500 and it seems to work well.  Emptying picture cache may help if the above doesn't.  There is also a function some where to recompute or redraw pic but can not find it right off hand.

    +1 on Lorney
    Keep us posted Danny

    To redraw waveforms
    1. Select the clips that you want to redraw.
    2. Right-click a selected clip, and choose Associated Audio Files on the pop-up menu to open the
    Associated Audio Files dialog.
    3. Click the Recompute Picture(s) button. A dialog appears, asking if you want to recompute the
    pictures on the selected clips.
    4.
    Click OK.

Pulled from Pages 1131 and 1132 of X1 Ref Guide
I guess you'd have to select and highlite the tracks by clicking on the track number if you cant physically see it.  Not sure

I had all my waveforms disapear and the sound still play. But I at least had clip outlines.

    That's a lot of black.

Every thing got better when I rebooted my computer.

    Good Luck!

    best regards,
    mike

Lorney: thanks. I keep my picture cache pretty clean. Each time I delete projects that I'm not using anymore, I kill them all. When I have the picture cache problem, the wave forms draw really slow. But since I've been dumping them weekly, I've not had that problem for years. Whatever this thing is, it just started happening. You know how your time line can be seen inside your wave/midi files? That disappears too. Anything in that center pane is gone. The lack of right click in that area makes me think this is something else. Keith from Sonar sent me a message with a few things to watch out for. He thinks it may be a leak of sorts so I'm gonna be watching GDI objects to see if it ramps up in the 10,000 range...which *could* indicate a problem. So far though, the same project that was blanking on me, has been up for nearly 3 hours without a blank. I didn't reboot the pc purposesly in case someone wanted me to try something. It could just need a reboot as I have never seen this type of behavior before. I'll try the larger picture cache as well if it does it again just to see if it makes a difference. Actually, I think I'll reboot if it does it again first. But for now it seems fine.

digi2: Thanks for the info. Yeah I don't think it's a redraw issue because in this situation, there isn't even a border or outline like Mike had mentioned. They just disappear, the time line disappears (yet remains visible in the top half of the project) and yet everything still plays and works well. I even tried different screen sets to see if it would make a difference, but it just laughed at me. LOL! The good thing is, the project doesn't seem to be corrupt in any way and it isn't an important project thank God...and it does play and export fine...I just was a bit surprised when all the waves and midi just hid on me. LMAO!

If I find anything out about this, I'll post up the info in case anyone else happens to experience this. Keith is willing to take a look at it for me if it continues so that's a good thing too. Thanks Keith, much appreciated. I'll be in touch if I can make it happen again. :)

Danny, it's probably a memory leak. It could be SONAR, it could be a plugin, or it could be a completely unrelated application. In any case, a reboot will fix it - at least temporarily.

If you're like me you rarely turn your computer off, putting it into standby instead. It's a good idea to power off completely at least once a week to clean up memory and resource leaks.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks bit. Yeah, I power down once per week and leave them on all the time. Except for my recording boxes...now that it's warm out, they will heat my entire studio if I leave them on. Great for saving on heat in the winter...but summer, uggh. :(

So far it hasn't happened at all today....maybe just an anomaly. Hopefully it doesn't come back.

I've had this happen with my control bar. I just undock it and re-dock it. Once it's undocked, it's fixed. Wierd?

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.
