X1 won't install on my xp machine
hi folks, X1 Producer won't install on my desktop machine running windows xp sp3 (everything is up to date system wise). but it has installed on my laptop running vista and works fine! i'm installing from disk (boxset came this morning), it just seems to get stuck extracting, i noticed just before it tries to install windows C++ 2005 thingy, i'm outta ideas as i've never had problems installing previous versions of sonar before! cheers jimmy

This has been addressed in other posts. Search on C++. Also, it would help if you reported the exact error message. "windows C++ thingy" doesn't cut it.

Sometimes I have found that installing the Windows C++ 2005 redistributable package hangs. When that has happened in the past, stopping the IIS information service seems to enable it to install without hanging.

one of the setup processes, to be honest, i kind of fluked it, it was near the top of the list, not 100% sure, sorry i can't be any more specific, i wasn't paying attention it was the fifth time i'd tried installing x1, and my patience was running thin, I just installed sonar x1, when it got to the point where the installation stalls, i called up the task manager, end process one of the setup processes and it just carried on installing, it also repaired windows C++ 2005 redistributable, which i think was causing the problems , it wasn't the main setup file that i terminated anyways!

1) There are _no_ error messages. The progress window just freezes in the "extraction" phase. 2) In Windows Task Manager I deleted all instances of processes with the string msi351, update, and installer in it (don't remember exact names); I left the two setup processes alone (setup and setup.tmp I think). The C++ files reinstalled automatically and X1 completed installing. Hope this helps someone

I actually only had to stop the "update" process, then the C++ files installed and all is now right with the world. Thanks so much! Jeff Knauff

I should have known better than go to the MS website for a solution. It's right here. What a nightmare. Thanks!
