X1 - won't scan plugins

new install of x1 producer.  upon startup, plugins aren't scanned and therefore missing when opening projects or even inserting effects (even though the effects are listed in audio effects folder).
weird.

any ideas before I try a re-install ?

    josh,

Hit 'P' for preferences. Go to VST Settings and check 'rescan existing plugins' then click 'Scan VST Folders'. Also check above in the same dbx to make sure you're scanning the proper folders and add VST folder locations if you have one or two that won't scan.

thx for the response larry.  i should've also mentioned that those buttons in the vst settings are not active for some reason (ie, they're greyed out).   also, the correct folders are designated to be scanned -however, when booting sonar, they aren't scanned and i can't do it manually...
