X1B: I thought they fixed V-Vocal?

From the X1B page:
V-Vocal Update
V-Vocal has been updated with SONAR X1b, issues addressed include:
  • Fixed a potential crash that could occur when changing time durations of a V-Vocal clip
  • Fixed a potential crash that could occur when removing a V-Vocal clip
  • Fixed a potential crash that could occur when adjusting a V-Vocal clip
  • Addressed an error with looping V-Vocal clips
  • Included several general stability improvements when working with V-Vocal

Mine crashes like a flying pig...still. Wish I wouldn't have uninstalled PE6 now.
Right click, create V-Vocal clip, little bar goes to mixing down audio, attempts to draw waveform on clip and then Sonar crashes before it's complete. Neato.

So, anyone else know of a common little fixit thing I missed with X1B and V-vocal? Or is the real solution to haul it to work & fix it with Logic?

      Stereo or mono clip?

As long as I select only the part I want to work on, and go slow and only use on mono files, it works fine for me.

Mono, about 3 minutes long. Split off a 30 second chunk, bounced it to a clip, attempted to load V-vocal, it crashes. Tried another project, it crashes there too.

Is there any way to reduce the lenght of the clip? I only use 5 second or less clips. I've found that works best. And instead of bouncing I drag a copy to a new track.

Do you still have--oh, I see you uninstalled your previous Sonar--I'm sorry, but why did you do that?  All previous versions you have can co-exist fine on your 'puter without them taking up much room.  I still use 8.5 because I prefer it, and on my not-so-supreme laptop, V-Vocal works fine.  I use all the usual precautions of bouncing to clip after each edit--

--Which reminds me--why are you bouncing to clip before you use V-Vocal--?  But I guess it's a moot point because you're saying V-Vocal crashes just on loading.  --- Strange - Works great for me in 8.5, it's never crashed, and in my tests with the *still experimental* X1, it hasn't crashed either.  Don't know what to tell you.

Well, I had thought I was on stable ground with X1B. Mixes like a master....but I Guess I shoulda tried V-vocal first.

And I bounced to a clip because I split that clip once already. Was just trying to give V-Vocal the best opportunity to work right. Apparently it doesn't want it.

      Loading 6 back up again....

if you put v-vocal over a three minute clip - you need to re do the vocals and or get a new singer

Sounds like you Loading 6 is the fix for the x1b v-vocal fix on your machine.

Hopefully it will still work after you re-install 6.

Does the version of Logic you're using have native tools that do this work, or is it a 3rd party plug-in?

      Thanks,

      Thought of another obvious thing:

Were you going to submit the crash dump to CW support to find out what is causing the v-vocal crash?

He said it was crashing when it was drawing the wave form, maybe delete everything in the picture cache folder? I think I read somewhere that doing that fixes some things.

I have found that freezing all the soft synths in a project allows V-Vocal to work.
I get crashes when projects get large in the >4Gb RAM usage area....
If synths are frozen this reduces the RAm used and V-Vocal starts working again.
I believe V-Vocal has issues with higher memory addresses.
I wish Cakewalk would sort it out........or I might have to splash out on melodyne and I really don't want to have to.

FWIW, I had some issues with it not working in X1a. X1b fixed it and I have had no trouble with it what so ever. Although, I use it more to fine tune an instrument note from time to time. I am blessed to work with some pretty great singers so I use it less on them than I do for other aspects. I wish you luck in finding the problem.

Hi Guys... I am new to the forum although a long time Sonar user! I have always had problems with V-Vocal although it took me quite some time to discover that it was V-Vocal that was causing all my misery... To the point where I bought a new system!!! I am using a i7 system now with 32gb RAM and tons of storage!!... and guess what?.. V-Vocal still crashed!!.. After trawling through various threads on the subject I came across a post that solved the problem.. I replaced the AUD.INI file in X2!! Actually I changed the name of the file to MUD.INI and forced Sonar to create a new AUD file when I reopened sonar.. Dont know if this will work for everyone but it sure solved all my V_Vocal crash problems.. Hope this helps!

Just want to add to this that bitflipper wrote a brilliant post on getting the most out of VVocal.  It may have been in the techniques forum.  If I find it I'll post it.

I printed it out, it was so good, and it's in my pile of useful info on my desk.

ypu may have multiple copies of the chronos.dll file on your computer. you should do a search for that file name. if you have more than one it could be a problem.

I recently deleted 8 bars of music in my project and of course V-Vocal clips were corrupted after. V-Vocal is in a bad shape.

      I believe this is Bitflipper's guide for V-Vocal http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2276613
Creating new threads with information pertaining the current problem and adding hardware/software specs is a much more productive approach to getting an issue solved.

I gave up on V-Vocal. Even in X1D and X2a, I've had so many weird issues with it, from crashing Sonar, to Alvin and the Chipmunks treatment, to just simply getting poor results from it. It needs an overhaul, me thinks. Even the UI for it is so outdated and unlike Cakewalk.

When Cakewalk plugged V-Vocal in X2's promotional videos, it actually made me seriously hesitate to upgrade. If Cakewalk had to plug V-Vocal for X2 sales, it showed me they were desperate to say anything to sell X2.
