X1B Messed Up The Midi Channel Numbers (SOLVED SORT OF)

I open up a .WRK file in X1B and it sorted my tracks and did not retain my midi channel numbers.  It sorted my tracks and assumed that track 1 is mapped to channel 1 .  Even drums that were mapped to Channel 10 are now mapped by X1B to channel 5 simply because the midi data was on track 5.  How am I supposed to know what midi channels to map my instruments to?  At least when I open the .wrk file up in 8.5 it still identifies the proper midi channels that the instruments were mapped to on the keyboard.  I guess I better keep Sonar 8.5 around for a while.  Damn!

I've seen this behavior also. I am now back on 8.5.3 since X1 is a MIDI hassle. I occasionally (rarely) see 8.5 cause the same issue where channels or ports are lost on old projects. Sonar has always been a bit sloppy about how it handles track and port assignments, especially if you forget to power on a MIDI device, etc.

I always take notes when I get a project I care about so I can restore it in the event of malfunctions like this. I also email versions of the MIDI data to myself on important files.

This issue is resloved almost. I had to go into each track and reassign each midi channel with the appropriate instrument. However, I had to go ionto each track and chane the midi channel twice. First, to tell X1B which channel you really wanted it to play on and second, to take it off the default channel (usually channel 1) that it wanted to assign. Seems that if I tell it to play on channel 5 it should automatically take it off channel 1. Why make me go back and undo channel 1.

How are you telling X1 what channels you want?  If you set a specific channel in the track header or inspector, that will over-ride whatever channel the track was originally recorded in.  If I look at the Event View for my projects, all the instruments say they're on channel one, because I never change the out-going channel on my keyboard.  The critical thing is setting the channel/instruments I want via the header/inspector.  You shouldn't have to tell X1 twice what you want.
