X1B posts all over the place

It appears to me that the posts on X1B are scattered.  Some love it, some in the middle, and some having problems.   I am not sure where I would fall on this.

Meanwhile, 8.5.3 is working great for me.  I mix out of the box.  So I cannot justify buying it at this point.

Howevver, given time constraints, if X1B was ONE file and that was all I had to download, I would consider checking it out.

I wonder if Cakewalk has any plans to have a release that is just one file as an upgrade from 8.5.3 - and perhaps even one where 8.5.3. does not even have to be on the computer - just having the serial number for 8.5.3 gets the upgraded SINGLE file?

I would highly recommend this for X1C.

THANKS for letting me express my viewpoint.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with the "one file" thing, but the X1 download is a standa-alone install that does not require the existence of any previous release on your PC.

What I mean by "one file" is that I do not have to install X1, X1a and then X1B.

Oh, okay. Unfrotunately, that is highly unlikely to happen. To my knowledge, Cakewalk have never released a patched version as a stand-alone install.

    Hear, Hear...

X1a breaks somethings (ASIO drivers for certain interfaces),
    X1b "fixes" somethings.
QuickFix is a great idea... BUT
X1c SHOULD be a once and for all, we finally got it right, install.
Lets keep in mind though that every release has had updates, fixes...

Cakewalk have never released a patched version as a stand-alone install.

Other than Cakewalk 4.0, Cakewalk has never released an install that is this "broken".

Thanks Tom.  I am trying to give helpful advice to Cakewalk, a company I love.

These are unusual circumstances, IMHO, and X1C should be ONE file.

Contact Cake and tell them. They probably wont see it here and if they do it may not be seen by someone who passes it on or who thinks it important.
Contact several people at Cake and tell them if you want to see it done. It may be a good idea and they may well do it if you get them thinking about it... but don't rely on a forum thread to get it done.

Probalby not, if you're talking about the sheer number of bugs fixed or needing fixing. But they have often released multiple patches for a base release. Nothing new there. Presumably, you are not re-installing and having to patch an install so many times that it would be an issue.

Getting 8.5.3 re-installed on a new machine was a pain because the 8.5 download was not stand-alone so you had to do all of 8.0 plus patches first as well. But getting from X1 to X1b244 is not that big a deal.

Man, you are so right! I sure hated to have to re-install 8.5, boy, what a tedious process. A couple of HDDs I had my images on went bad on me around the same time, but after I got the new HDDs, thank goodness for Acronis True Image when I was able to use it to restore my system!

I expect to see X1c, possibly another quickfix or two to keep the natives calm... then X2!! The Real Deal... DAW 3.0 of course being software.. there will be X2a and X2b but that's OK, that is just the way things are and the way they always will be, it is the nature of complex software running on a bunch of different machines, using a bunch of different controllers and interfaces. But.... Bring it on baby, keep it rolling!

This ain't a lawnmower (no that is a bad example, my lawnmower breaks down every year because of all the safety features... thank you uncle Sam for protecting me from my lawnmower... but I digress).

This (Sonar) ain't a bowling ball or a golf club... to paraphrase someone else, from somewhere else... I imagine (for the bakers) a release like X1 must be like parachuting at night into a bonfire, in the midst of a tribe of headhunters in the frenzy of a war dance. I think they do pretty good considering.

+1 "slipstreamed" is the term, where any previous service packs/fixes are integrated into a single installer (though i assume cake'd do this already if it were time/money/technically realistic)
