X1C audio 'dropout' caused by boost11

I'm familiar with all the usual tweaks involved in sorting out dropouts / latency etc but I've been experiencing dropouts or even complete audio disengagement and just found Boost11 to be the culprit. I had it on my mastr bus and all was fine for a while until all of a sudden no audio. The project would run but no sound..  After much scratching around I found if I disable boost11 I'm back in business. Then I realisd I had an instance on a softsynth output channel too. This instance is not behaving as expected either - I'm getting loads of overs / clipping on this instance.  Anyone else have the same experiene? Oh, and if I use any other limiter I still get overs.... ?!  Strange daze indeed...

    I think Boost 11 has look ahead.

    Try raising your sample buffer.

    Is the project all MIDI-driven synths or does it include some recorded audio?
    Do audio track, bus and Boost11 meters continue registering normally or do audio meters go flat while MIDI meters remain active?

    If the Audio is all MIDI-driven synths and the audio meters go flat when you lose output, I'd suggest you try increasing the MIDI "Prepare Using" buffer.

    I'm trying to get it to do it again - it will eventually - has been for days now. As I recall though the meters all responded normally - but the meter within the boost11 vst on the master bus went full - as in  'maxed out' no matter what I did. Even if the project was stopped. The project is largely soft synth based but does have some audio track too. I trie disengaging each and every softsynth too (only 3 running) - made no diffs. Mike McCue - that's the first thing I tried- having the buffers at max (1024) and at others as well....

    Based on the clarification of the symptoms, I don't think so. Something else is going on, but it's hard to speculate without seeing exactly how the whole project is set up.

    I don't know if Boost 11 is a look ahead... but I thought it was.

    It seems like syncing up all the different latency inducing DSP when some are on tracks and some are on buses is a mind boggling task so I figure that's about the state of the art.

    If boost 11 is look ahead... I'd advise that it not be placed on a project until almost all the heavy editing is done. That's how I manage issues with look ahead limiters and convolutions tools.



    Maybe just deleting and re instantiating the instances of Boost 11 will clear things up.

    I imagine it does look ahead, but it must work within the limits of whatever audio buffer size you have set. I've never noticed that it introduces any PDC.


    Brendan, the "Floating" demo has some instances of Boost11 in it. Have you run that project on your system? If not, I recommend you give a shot. Just be sure to disable the PX-64 on the Snare Top track first (or disable the Shaper section of it) to avoid another bug that causes clipping on that track. )


    If Boost11 is causing trouble for you when set properly, I'm guessing it's some interaction with something else in that particular project of yours.

    I have noticed this issue for a while with Boost 11, not limited to X1c. I think I have narrowed down the dropouts occurring when Sylenth is in the project. Remove Boost, remove the the problem.

    I can't figure out what brings it on.... I've used boost11 happily for years now and only recently had this issue. After restarting sonar and the same project numerous times (deleting and re-inserting b11) it seems to be happy. I havn't had much time to work on this project since my initial post but I will keep you up to date as things happen. I got the feeling that it was a x1c bug but may have be a bit quick to jump to conclusions... 
    I have no to loaded the 'floating' demo because I have b11 running fine in many other projects. I have RMX and Kontakt running in this project - maybe one of them is part of the problem?

    Update

    Ok so I'm working on the same project - Audio disappears and I go on the hunt. (mater bus meters go through the roof and stay there...) This time it's not boost11 it sonitus reverb on an audio track.... disable=sorted. delete+replace=sorted. 
    Later it happens again... this time its pro channel comp on the master bus. disable=sorted. to get back to normal functionality switch the comp switch from 4k to 76 and back. possibly vice versa if it happens the other way around?! 

    hope it helps someone?! Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Sounds like maybe "denormaling" issues. Have you changed the setting of ZeroFillMethod=2 in AUD.INI? If so, I suggest you try changing it back.

    Even if you have not consciously made changes to AUD.INI, you might want to try renaming it, and letting SONAR create a new one with all default settings. If that solves the problem, you can compare the two files, and maybe identify the specific culprit by the differences.
