X1C to Nuendo and back to X1C
Hi my friends from SONAR. Tomorrow morning, I start a new projet and I want to make sure about my general knownledge to do a better possible job. Here comes the big question...Should I save in Wave or in another format. Because, here tomorrow I record a drum set acoustic and few synths making the bass, piano and brass. Then, next saturday, we go to my friend's studio who is use to work with Nuendo. At is place, we will record some percussion stuff and vocals. Then, we come back here or in an other location to mix. I record here at 24/88.2 So, do you think every thing should work well? TY for your input!!! I really appreciate! G.

I've gone back and forth many a time with SONAR and Pro Tools and have always used Broadcast Wave files, that includes going from Mac to PC and back so you should be fine.

This question is pertinent to my interests. I have a ton of old Nuendo projects I want to pull into X1. I'm pretty sure I'll lose all my automation and effects but I just want the tracks to line up properly and I have no idea how to do that. :-/

Oh yeah. It'll have it. Just look at your export options.

Have you tried OMF? I send music to be mixed in Protools and OMF is a great way to do it. I'm sure if you guys did a couple of tests you could figure away to share the project.

Hey,why 88.2?[some plugs/synths don't allow it] Just wondering as 48KHz,should be more than enough apparently. Isn't Nuendo a post production Daw,also I believe its very expensive too. Just trying to learn,1 year in front of a computer,28 years in front of a Marshall. Bob

I have used tracks done with Nuendo, exported to OMF then reimported into Sonar X! - a snap ! Recently exported to OMF for Pro Tools and everything ok except: I'd suggest to save into OMF **both** with embedded audio as well as ''refer to audio externally''. For some reason I have not been able to figure (even for OMF under 2GB), sometimes Pro Tools will import session data the second way, sometimes not: it will just be able to use the ''embedded'' version. Usually, it's always able to use the embedded, but not always the audio separated.... Frankly I have no clue if one should be better than the other... Emwhy suggested to just to export straight to Broadcast wavs but as I understand it, you have to do it track by track (while oMF will just allow you to make one export process). With projects with just a few tracks, that might be the way to go, but I do have 30-40 tracks projects and went through that track by track process just once - it took me over an hour, double-checking everything... Make sure you remove all pannings, volumes - especilly enveloppes (unless you're 100% sure of your decisions - then bounce to track and get rid of old track) One good practice: save your project with another name before starting all those changes. Work with the copy, so if anything happen, you don't scrap your project... Remove all plug-ins, just export straight tracks. Remove MIDI tracks (or bounce them to audio) before exporting to OMF. Good luck, Rob

Thank's sincerely to all for your suggestions, I will take everything in consideration. And, bobguitkillerleft I take 88.2 because I try to get the maximum of what I can get to have more and more quality. I'm not 100% sure that it will make a big difference at the end but every possible + I can try, I give a go. And 88.2 is a fare division to go at 44.1 TY again!!!

The idea of 88.2->44.1 being somehow "better" is simply not true. A sample rate down conversion is an averaging of a group of samples. So to reduce the sample rate you reduce the total number of samples by averaging neighboring samples. Having a larger difference between the original and target sample rate is worse because more values have to be averaged, which introduces more deviation per sample. The less averaging you have to do, the better the end result. So if you the best quality: you record at the greatest bit depth, and at the sample rate you want to the end product to be in.

wrt 88.2, the more processing you do (# tracks, # fx) the more the numbers are "rounded" as they're calculated - having higher sr gives a more accurate final number... (more for recorded audio than VSTs) ...and the easier the src if it's a multiple of your final destination (44.1)... it's "just" the maths...[br] and as an afterthought, which synths/plugs won't do 88 these days, do you really need them?
