X1D to Expanded Is it worth it?
HI All I was wondering if the upgrade to Producer X1 Expanded was worth it. I already have Producer X1D,but I have only just found out about Expanded and Production Suite. Thanks Alan

I think it depends what you want from it. If you already have a bunch of third party stuff for tweaking your tracks it may not be all that. The Suite on the other hand is pretty spiffy. Lots of goodies and I think the upgrade is supposed to be super cheap right now.

I bought expanded for $10. Now is it worth $10, I can't really tell, the Softube Saturation knob falls under the "no big whoop" for me because I was fine with the original saturation in prochannel. My goal is to add prochannel modules in time, or as funds are available. Without the prochannel modules, I don't think it's worth it at this point.

@Travis... I thought Expanded WAS all the extra PC modules. I don't understand. And I'd say if it's only ten bucks it's worth if just to have those effects right on the strip. $50? Probably not.

Expanded is what allows you to add the available for-sale modules. But it also introduced PC scrolling, the Synth Replace feature, dragging from the TV to the Browser, and other stuff I can't recall at the moment. IMHO it's well worth it when you look at everything it includes. Particularly when they're things you would like to have.

Getting expanded was the right decision for me. I use the saturation knob more than I thought I would. The eq is upgraded and I picked up a couple of modules that I use on every project, almost every track with the PC2A. Everything I purchased was during a special sale's event. Having the prochannel w/ expanded puts X1 in a league by itself imho.

Bah! An extra $180 to get what I THOUGHT I had already paid for... and even then there is the Softube expansion which requires an iLok. Oh I am not a happy Beepster right now. And they should have tossed Pyro into the Suite too. Not cool.

Expanded depends a lot on what you do with sonar. If you do a lot of midi and composing it is not that big of deal. If you work with audio and mix/record it certainly is nice to have. I really like it.

Bah! An extra $180 to get what I THOUGHT I had already paid for I'm pretty sure that Expanded and the Production Suite were both introduced before all the modules were even available. So I can't see CW changing the content after the fact. Otherwise every new PC module would have to be free to those that bought the suite, regardless of when they actually bought it. Doesn't seem like a practical thing to do.

Yeah, I guess. Still pretty annoying though because my intention was to have X1 completely maxed out so I had access to everything should the need arise. Maybe I qualify for a discount. Will have to check my account later. Cheers.

I bought the Expanded when it was on sale for $20. So far it's working out great for me as I have also bought numerous modules including the Concrete Limiter and TSAR-1R which I really like alot. I also got the compressor and gate/expander. So I'm pretty well set for now. I may also get the Leveling Amplifer if it ever goes on sale again.

I didn't even know what half that stuff was when I bought it. I just saw that it was capable of what I absolutely needed it to do and figured having the deluxe package would save me from screwing around with upgrades. I'm gonna have to take a hard look at everything and maybe even email Cake to figure out exactly what I'm missing and if they have any plans to release new stuff for PC in the near future. Must... have... it... ALL! ;-)

Heh. Actually what I'd really like is a complete list of EVERYTHING Cake makes that I didn't get with the Suite so I can figure out what's what and start crossing things off the list... well the useful stuff anyway. The Suite comes crammed with so much it's hard to tell what exactly is in there and the store doesn't really help you figure out what is missing. It's mostly because my equipment isn't the best (like my guitars and mics) so if I want super polished final product I think I'm gonna have to rely heavily on all the software gizmos. Probably wouldn't be such a big deal if I was a synth guy... but I'm not.

@Beepster The PC2A is outstanding! I picked it up during the ~$20 sale. This compressor is one of my favorites.

And seriously I did buy the Suite specifically for all that fancy PC stuff. The synths and everything are cool but I won't really be using that crap aside from maybe some window dressing on my tracks. I'm pretty annoyed and quite disappointed I allowed myself to get confused by the marketing. Ugh...

@Mystic... I wish I had the patience and wherewithal for that kind of stuff but I think I need to just watch that PC module pack and see what happens with it price wise. I prefer to just snag stuff in big chunks instead of doing it piece by piece... but I guess maybe I should build a proper list (or ask Cake for one as I mentioned earlier) so I can keep an eye on stuff. I don't find shopping as thrilling or pleasurable as most of society seems to these days and it tends to be a liability on occasion (like when I missed the Peart SD3 pack for $20... GAH!). I just want what I need and move on to using it. Frankly the last year of purchasing hardware/software has been quite draining and I want it to end. Okay... I'll stop whining now.

It is definitely worth every cent! Just the module selection alone is fantastic. I am also waiting on the next PC2A sale. If it is anywhere as good as the PC4K modules, I can just about do everything I need to do track-wise with ProChannel modules. Got Expanded when it first came out. It is invaluable to me now!

It's fantastic on vocals. Expanded is definitely worth it. Even without the extra modules. The Sat Knob (far better than the Tube Sat Module, IMHO), scrolling the PC and the other little extras are worth it alone.
