In the SNAP section of the Control Bar, there are four icons at the bottom.
Turning on the first one (Midi Landmarks) should get it working for you. I don't remember how these defaulted on X1 and X1a, but I also lost my snap setting when I upgraded. Made me panic for a minute or so.
You may also want to check your "magnetic strength" setting. Setting it to off will give you the most predictable results.
