X1b install: "Cannot locate the required version"
Ok, I feel stupid, but here goes: I own Sonar X1 Producer (build 184), and it says so when I click on "About Sonar" from the Help menu. I've downloaded the file called "ProducerX1bPatch.exe" and when I run it, I get this error: "Cannot locate the required version of the program on this system. Please install the correct version of the program to use this patch." Sonar is installed in the default directory, and I haven't done anything to it except apply whatever other patches have come out for it. Is there perhaps a patch I'm missing that's making the installer think I don't have Producer installed?

Have you installed X1a ? You need to install X1A before X1B Regards

I have both the 32bit and 64bit versions of X1 installed. I first installed the X1b patch for the 32bit version, and it went well. Then, I tried to install the update for the 64bit version, and I got an error saying something to the effect that the installer "couldn't find the correct bit depth version." So, I closed the X1b update, and I started up SONAR X1 x64 from the desktop icon, and it was running OK. I tried the update again and got the same message. I ended up having to put in the installation disk (as I have the X1 boxed version) and install the 64bit version of X1 again, and, then, the X1a update again. After that, the X1b update installed. Maybe you will have to install X1 and the X1a update again, before the X1b update will install..

I wish cake had done a better job with this. I think most of people's problems is because of the "a" update not being there or complications with the hotfix, etc. they should have a better message regarding the problem, like "Cakewalk cannot find the X1A update, please install X1a first." or whatever message it needs for the exact problem the installer has. thomas - you have nearly the same stuff I have for recording. I don't have my 1010LT any more and my Delta 44 bit the dust, but I also have a KSM27 (which I love!), but I do have the MOTU ultralite which I'm very pleased with. do you use the 1010LT and the MOTU at the same time? how well does that work? sorry for the hijack andrew!

Ah...wow, I was out of the loop for so long, I didn't realize x1a was an actual thing. Everything's good now...thanks.

good deal! and yet I reiterate that cake should have done a better job with the error message. I'm sure the programmers of the install routine could have determined which version you were using and that you were missing the X1a update and told you so!

OP: Good to hear you were able to install the X1b update. Beagle: I rarely use the 1010LT since I got the UltraLite-MK3. I love my UltraLite! Can't remember when I was using them both at the same time. But I recently installed the 1010LT for some speacial team testing. The special team drivers work well, too. :) I connect the 1010LT to the UltraLite via S/PDIF. I'm currently using the 1010LT for my gaming and Windows soundcard. However, I have tested it with the special team drivers in X1 and the ASIO driver is very good in low latency performance. As good as the MOTU special team drivers, but not having as many features as the MOTU drivers. I like the Shure KSM27, too. It was a bargain for the quality when I got it some years ago at Guitar Center for $299, I think, but a year after I got it, the price droped $100. Scott Garrigus had the same mike. Maybe still does. Hope that helps. Any more questions, just ask me and I can do some testing for you. :)

ah - connecting it via SPDIF makes sense if you use both of them. but it's good to hear that some special team drivers work well also.

Hmm. I only have the 32-bit version of X1a installed and I still get this error when attempting to install X1b. I've verified that the X1a installation is actually installed. Of course I still have 8.5.3 installed as well, so maybe the X1b installer sees that and stops looking. Not sure I want to remove it though, since it's a known quantity. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the X1b update for X1 Producer version? There are updates for each version Producer, Studio, and Essenstial. W\If you do have the correct patch, without uninstalling X1, re-install X1 and X1a, then try the X1b patch, again. Make sure it's the 32bit version you are installing, by default the installer is set to install the 32bit version.

it doesn't have anything to do with 8.5.3, I have that installed on my system as well and my update went fine without any problems.
