X1c - Adding soft synth takes a LONG time

For some reason, whenever I add a soft synth in X1c, it takes a LONG time (about 30 seconds) for it to appear in either the soft synth browser or on the screen. Sometimes it takes so long that Sonar's title bar says "not responsive". I never noticed this slowness in Sonar 8.5.3 or earlier. Has anyone else noticed it?

Yes, and you're right, it was much faster in 8.5.  I feel the list of things that were faster in 8.5 could fill up this page in fine print.  That's my experience anyway, concurs with yours.

pretty instantaneous on mine. The only time i notice a delay is Omnisphere, which can take 5 or 6 seconds before the GUI pops up.

I havent had thast issue yet, and I'm pushing EastWest Syphonic Platinum plus, over 17 tracks at the moment.  The initial load time is about 10 secs.  Same in 8.5.

One thing it could be is if you have your Synth installed on a different HDD than X1 is installed on and you have to wait for that drive to come out of energy saver mode.

You may want to make sure your HDD's are set to never turn off in Power Options.

My synths are on SSD, as well as Sonar. Even if I add 2 new synths in a row, both are very sluggish to open (in X1c). I didn't notice this problem in X1b but then again I didn't use X1b very much because of its other problems.

I just tried this with what I have installed and I'm not seeing this.

Can you give us an example of a synth that causes it for you as well as how you're adding it to your project?  I would also put that same information into a problem report so that our folks in-house can take a look at it as well as other forumites.

I was adding Kontakt 4 via the Browser sidebar. Have other people reported a similar problem? If you want, I can methodically go through all my synths and see which ones (and which methods of adding) are laggy in X1c vs 8.5.3.

I was adding Kontakt 4 via the Browser sidebar.

I'm assuming this means you dragged it into the project? One of the great things about the new browser is that it allows for so many ways of working effects and instruments - the downside for troubleshooting is that it allows for so many ways of working effects and instruments   The more clear the repro case here would definitely help out.

If you want, I can methodically go through all my synths and see which ones (and which methods of adding) are laggy in X1c vs 8.5.3.

That shouldn't be necessary, one or two synths and the insert method should be enough along with the project file.  Just to rule it out I would also suggest trying it out in a brand new project to see if it still happens.

This has happened to me exactly one time while loading a project that contained kontakt+abbey road 80s drums, DP, and Studio instruments Bass.. Sonar wouldn't respond for quite some time.. Then all of the sudden the project finally loaded up and worked fine.. Every time before and after that it all loaded up within seconds.

Maybe an issue with Kontakt?? Hmm..

Here are the steps I use to add a synth in X1:
    1) hit "B" to open browser panel
    2) click synth icon at top of panel to open synth tab
    3) click "+"
    4) click "Insert Synth"
    5) click name of synth (e.g., "Kontakt 4")
    6) make sure "Simple Instrument Track" is checked
    7) make sure "Synth Property Page" is checked
    8) click "OK" ------------------

In preparation for testing a bunch of synths in 8.5.3 and X1c, I rebooted my PC. Kontakt 4 now loads quickly (taking only a couple seconds), in both a new project and the old project that was giving me problems before.

So, it appears that rebooting the PC gets rid of whatever was bogging down Sonar. Maybe something else I was running was interfering with Sonar (firefox, rsync, windows media player), or maybe Sonar itself gets less responsive until you reboot. I guess I really won't be able to know unless the slowness happens again.

Has anyone else noticed that a reboot gets rid of the slowness?

It could be that the first time you load that synth Windows takes awhile to load all the related dll's or a memory paging issue. Although you seem to have plenty of RAM.
Eitherway if its not consistent, its very unlikely to be specific to SONAR. If anything loading synths is slightly more efficient in X1 since we do better lazy parameter creation than earlier versions.

I am experiencing this also and It did not happen in X1B. Yes, the type plugin may be part of it but it still takes much longer since the XIC update. In my case the project only has 1 track of Omnisphere,
2 tracks of Zebra. I do not believe this is just because of my Daw configuration although it may be to some extent... so I am open to suggestions. It is taking 18 to 22 seconds to load that small project.

[font="'times new roman'"]I reboot my computer every day and that did not make a difference. I still have some things I have not looked at and I am confident I can improve the load time some. I was just surprised to see a longer load time after I updated to X1C as I did not change anything else to my knowledge.
