X1c Asio - Can't used simultaneously 2 different devices

I have two pieces of hardware to record audio in X1c; my m-audio delta 1010LT & my Roland GR-55 (via it's usb connection).

When X1c is set to WDM/KS I can see and select both devices; unfornately in doing my playback glitches/skips like crazy the audio I get on the GR-55 track is, well, biiiiirk.

After seeing a post regarding issues between current issues between Sonar & M-Audio hw I downloaded the latest W7 driver for my Delta card, did the same thing for the GR-55 and switch X1c to ASIO:

1) Record/Playback on the 1010LT is back to "normal"; it no longer skips.

2) The problem in ASIO mode is that I can see both devices in "preferences" but I can only select one or the other.

I currently have X1c set to 44.1/24 bits because the GR-55 doesn't support 48K

Is this a "normal behavior" or am I missing something?

Mario

    Hi Mario,

This is normal ASIO only supports the use of one device at a time - to use more than one you will need to use WDM.

    Willie,

This pretty means that I'm dead in the water; my delta 1010lt had no problem with wdm/ks when it was intalled on my XP PRO-32 bits/s8.5 desktop but with a new W7 Pro-64bits/X1c it's un-usable I'll have to stick to ASIO as it is my primary sound card).

Question: I don't undestand what and how ASIO and WDM works but I have never undestood why you
have never implemented something to workaround this permenantely; it's not like ASIO is a
                     new comer.

    Thank you for the note.

    Mario,

It's not a Cakewalk issue - it is part of the ASIO spec.
You can try something like ASIO4ALL that "wraps" ASIO drivers to appear as WDM drivers (so I'm told) but not everyone has success with this!

its a limitation of asio, not of sonar.  it is the same way on any daw using asio drivers.

this is why interfaces that have adat inputs are so useful.
for example, my profire 2626 only has 8 inputs, but via adat i can add two more sets of 8 inputs (like the octane) for a total of 24 ins.
Meanwhile, my daw only sees one interface.  it only sees the profire because everything is running thru it.

Actually it's the other way around,  ASIO4ALL wraps WDM drivers to make them appear as ASIO.

Ahhh . . . but the ASIO drivers must be wrapped as well to appear as one driver, no?

    Mario,

This is indeed a limitation of ASIO itself. For ASIO to work with multiple devices is up to the writer of the driver, not the DAW. We actually did it with our interfaces as you can use two VS Streaming devices together while using ASIO (Octa-Capture, Quad-Capture, VS-100, VS-700).

    Hi Mario,

I am curious just how you are imputting your audio from the GR-55 into Sonar.

(I have yet to unpack my GR-55 and start playing with it. My first guitar synth and I'm waitung until I have a chunck of time to ingore the family before I delve in....that and an a new Sibelius version and work...and...life...)

You referred to the GR-55s USB port. Isint that just for manageing patches/libraries etc.? Surely not for imputting midi yet along audio.

I stand corrected...as I look through the Gr-55 manual it appears that you can indeed imput audio as well as midi through the usb.

Mario, how is the sound if you connect the GR-55's audio out puts via the delta's inputs and record in this fashion?

Have you tried the latest drivers from M-Audio?  I had to go to WDM to get mine to work in Win7  (ASIO worked in win xp but wont with win7

The driver ver Im using is 5.10.0.5076
