you sure BOTH programs are 64 bit mode ? if not that won't work .. if you have 32 bit sonar install and that works.. then looks like it's not 64 bit sibalius as reason 6.5 will by default install 64 bit version *BUT* not the 32 bit one. You are running the latest update for sibelius ? http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=598915&groupid=3&&guest=1 mentions it.. but if there is issue with the rewire lib also, that can cause issue.. depends how far you can get.. does it start up when you pick to insert a rewire instrument ?

I only installed 64 bit X2. I don't remember an option when installing Sibelius though. It doesn't start when I insert a rewire, no. I have the latest Sibelius 7.1.3

Bump. Just hoping to find someone with this working - I'm not in a huge rush to sort it out but it would be nice!

Looks like it is just you and me. We are the only people in the entire world that can't get this to work so we are very lucky! As far as I can tell the best that can be expected is that you start up X2, open a project, insert Sib 7 as a rewire and X2 creates the necessary tracks etc. Sib does not open automatically - at least is doesn't for me. Is it supposed to? So if you then open Sib you will probably get an audio error that tells you to go into audio devices in Sib and click on "clean up". So you do that and then you open a Sib project. You rewind to the beginning of that score and you make sure that X2 is rewound to the beginning of its project and you should be able to start the rewired project in Sonar and Sib should start to play at the same time as X2. That is where I get stumped. It doesn't work. Now I have been able to get it to work but only once. I uninstalled X2 - very quick but the reinstall that takes lots of time. Curiously (and this has happened each time I install X2 - yes I have done it a few times now - I get an error twice (the same error) during the install. The error says "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) Error 1719 The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." If you click OK, there is a bit more installing but you very quickly get the same error again. Then click OK again and the install proceeds as if nothing untoward had happened. I don't know if this has anything to do with the busted rewire situation. I tried to see if I could solve this runtime issue but I couldn't. If you try to install the latest version of runtime - 2010, my operating system tells me that there is already a more recent version on my computer. I try to uninstall that thinking that I could just install the new one in its place but it won't let me do that. I give up. So back to the X2 install and this is where it gets interesting. Once for s&g's I decided to stop the install when it was ready to install Rapture (this is something I have never used - its a state that I would like to achieve but maybe another day). When I did that and proceeded to open X2 and a project and then rewire Sib and then open a score and then go through all the other stuff mentioned above up to the point where I press play in X2, it worked but only once. I have not been able to replicate this superhuman feat. Maybe I was hallucinating - but I don't think so. I was so excited when this fixed it, delerious after hours and hours of staring at the friggin screen during installs, uninstalls and reinstalls, stupidly when I got to this point I uninstalled X2 for the umpteenth time and let the fresh install go through and install rapture. That stuffed it. It has never worked again. I have tried reinstalling and stopping at rapture but I cannot replicate the fix. So like you, I am the lucky one who cannot get rewire to connect Sib 7 and X2 Producer. Is there anyone out there who might be able to shed light on this? Or should I just go to tools - shudder? At least Sib and tools come from the same vendor (for the time being). Seriously guys, what's a guy gotta do to make this work?

A recent development has at least allowed me to get Sib to run when I start the project in X2. I have a heap of outputs available to me with my Mackie 1640i desk (gloat). If I make sure that Sib is not using any of the same outputs as I have assigned to X2 (including as record and playback timing masters) it works if you open sib. Note that Sib doesn't show that it is 'using' any output devices when it is in rewire mode but it seems that there is something going on when it is instantiated that refers to the outputs that it is assigned to. Also note that when you close Sib (you must do this before you close X2), it crashes "Sibelius.exe has stopped working". This causes further headaches because you have to then close X2 and then reopen that and then reopen Sibelius if you want to do any more work on your rewired project. If you don't do that Sib gets hung up trying to initialize playback - something it will not recover from and which requires you to shut down the then crashed Sib and then shut down X2 etc. Also beware that when you start your project playing in X2, it sends the command to Sib to load the sound set that you are using in your Sib score. That can take a while and you have to stop Sib and X2 and wait for the sounds to load before you can start playing the project. Remember Sib will always crash when you close it as a rewire. I would really like to know if this can/will be fixed. Now get to work.

I do not know about Sib but I was under the impression that you needed to start the rewire slave app before starting x2. Not sure of the shutdown sequence.

it's the other way around Tom , host prog first.. then when you start the slave one it checks that state, sets it accordingly (I had to look up to make double sure, hehe) *BUT* normally with reason, it's a case of just doing insert rewire device in sonar. the only things I'd check are 1)both soundcard setups are correct / allow sharing 2)the rewire lib is up to date 3)both things are either 32 or 64 bit what do m-audio say about sibelius ? (I gave up on avid tech support = give wrong info back / won't buy their products now)
