X2 Colors!

this is the second version of X (X1 and X2 now) that hasnt shipped with a usable color scheme like 8.xx did. that had tons of presets.

and to top it off, i cant seem to change the audio tracks background to something similar, like white. (all that is available to change in the foreground). maybe im missing something here.
i also tried to export my color scheme (xxxxxxx.clr) from X1 and use it in X2, but havent quite figured that out. any ideas?

I don't think you can turn just the audio clips background white globally or just the midi clips background white globally in color preferences. You can only change all clips on tracks ending in 1, 2, 3, etc., to white in preferences, but it will make the background white whether they are audio or midi clips on those tracks. Go to color category Clips and select all of the Tracks...Background entries and change the color to white.

I just verified that this is different in X1 vs X2.
In X1 you can tell the audio clips background to be white, numbers at a time, without changing the midi tracks background color.

Yes the backgrounds of MIDI and Audio clips are now tied together within Preferences/Colors options. However, you can override this via the Inspector either on a per clip basis or for the entire track. You can also smart group tracks and change the backgrounds for the entire group to the same color in one shot.

Yes and even tried importing my saved X1 color settings.

Then I spent a looong time trying to find a setting that changes the time ruler background so I could make it black again. I don't think it is there now in X2, but if somebody proves me wrong, please let me know.

As far as I could see, there were no "migration" steps in the installation. I might have missed it, but typically it finds a previous install, prompts for migration, and does it by itself. This time i dont think it did that.

i've spent a lot of time getting things back to the way they were. i wish this was taken care of already.

I didn't notice any migration, but I am willing to adjust things anyway because I know colors and shortcuts etc. have changed anyway. I was getting somewhere with my color scheme, then I couldn't find something to change time ruler background, that's all, which makes a big difference in the look.

Didn´t notice any migration either, however I imported a couple of Sonar 8.x colour-presets - all of a sudden I had a bunch (15-20) of presets. + it also seems to "awaken" some colour-settings in X2, just like it did in X1.

But then if 8.5 color schemes work in X2, why didn't they say so at the very least? And why didn't they just implement it??

You are kidding me!  All this time and they [color schemes] were available all along.  I found this old thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=956469
and followed the link to the site with Sonar Color Schemes : https://sites.google.com/site/sonartemplates/home.  I downloaded one of these pretty and very different color schemes.  Guess what?  It worked!  After the color scheme was imported, I then just saved it as a preset in the preset box in the Color section in preferences in X2.  And now I have a beige (don't laugh) X2 that is easy to see and read.

This is ridiculous.  Sorry to vent.  But hurray! I have now X2 with usable colors.

Thanks PGW or whoever earlier in this thread suggested imported 8.5 color schemes.  Really--THANKS.

[edited:  Oh, and yorolpal's "cafe latte" scheme is there in the light template section.  Wow, this is great!]

This is because there are many colors in the Registry that do not appear in the Preferences list!

    SONAR COLORS 101
The current color scheme for Sonar is listed in the registry tree:
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Cakewalk Music Software - SONAR Producer - X2 - Colors".

This is a full list of changeable colors. Time Ruler Background is one of them, even though it is not found in Preferences.
All Sonar apps use a similar registry list so if a color choice is available in both Sonar 8 and X2 you can set up a Sonar 8 color scheme and import it into X2. Any colors that aren't in the X2 list will simply not change.

If you know RGB color codes you can change them in the registry. Panu has a utility that can change these colors also.
