X2 Complete Screen Whiteout When Inserting Soft Synth
This is new: After installing latest update, I get a delay when patching in any soft synth. here's what happens - I insert DimPro. The program "halts" for a few seconds ...the screen goes completely white ...then it resumes operation and the synth (whichever is chosen) operates fine. ALSO: I now get crashes again when using Rapture x64 full version. ALSO: I get lots more "teleport.exe has stopped working" notices... Anyone else experiencing anything similar? I am very happy with SONAR X2, overall. I make money with my production using it daily. It's like a good girlfriend ... even they give you cramps sometimes but you ain't losing 'em!

Several questions: 1. What service pack are you running for Windows 7 Home premium x64? 2. You mention an update. What update was that? X2a? 3. How many hard drives do you use, what kind of transfer protocol do they use (SATA 2, SATA 3, SSD) and what is/are the RPM's for any of the drives? 4. If you have more than 1 drive, how do you have them set up? Windows will be on the primary drive - which drive holds applications, and which drive holds things like projects and sample libraries? 5. What, if any, analysis and tweaking of any background services have you done, for purposes of minimizing latency and any conflicts? (some antivirus software, for example, interferes with audio processing, and downloading and running DPC Latency Checker will give you an idea of the latency situation on your machine). If your computer was bought off the rack, it will likely have a bunch of bloatware on it that will bog down performance, etc. 6. For your interface, is it plugged into a USB 2.0 or a USB 3.0 port? (some have issue with running in a USB 3.0 port) 7. What settings do you have for your audio interface, for Sample Rate and ASIO Buffer size? 8. In Sonar, what is the Sample Rate set to? It must match the Sample Rate as set for the audio interface. 9. In Sonar, what is the driver mode set to? 10. In Sonar, what is the bit-depth set to, and what is the Total Roundtrip latency showing as? Let's start with the above, and go from there. I look forward to reviewing your responses, and to hopefully getting this worked out for you, Bob Bone

That just happens sometimes. X2 still needs some fixing up. I had a momentary whitescreen when opening my current project and my system is fine. I'm hoping a b patch is coming soon.

If you're getting Teleport Server errors it means you're using Bitbridge to load a 32 bit plug-in in the 64 bit version. How many of your synths/plug-ins are 32 bit when you experience these issues?

musec03 - This may help: I was getting a variation of your problem (after loading a Soft Synth, things came to a standstill until I got a white screen flash - then back to normal). Also, I had a few crashes and Sonar X2a took a long time to load a project. Dan Gonzales (@ Cakewalk) checked out a crash dump and suggested that I replace the "Legacy" drivers for my MIDIMan Keystation 49 (I loaded those when Windows Upgrade Advisor said my old drivers were not compatible with Windows 7 (Professional). The "Legacy" drivers don't pertain to your problem, but I threw that in that perhaps someone else may have that issue (I actually reloaded my original drivers and the keyboard is recognized by Sonar and it works fine). Now, his other suggestion (that I think will solve your problem), was to run Sonar "as an Administrator". I changed the icon on the Taskbar to do that (as to not have to go through the manual steps each time) and the Soft Synth issue has gone and Sonar loads projects noticably faster. Give it a shot, Doug

Hello emwhy... I primarily employ 64 bit soft synths on projects for the moment. That's a good puzzler question as to why teleport bespeaks usage of 32 bit plugs... I suppose Perfect Space, and other audio fx are going to still be 32 bit which may provide some helpful feedback, Typically, I using DimPro 64, Rapture 64, Session Drummer 64, EZDrummer and Superior Drummer are both 64 bit... ONe thing to point out ...teleport server crashes when I do a VST scan I've been told that's no big deal. Thank You for Your Reply Roy

The Teleport server is a pain, that's one of the main reasons I switched to jBridge for 32 bit plugs in SONAR. The only time SONAR gets "goofy" for me is when I'm loading a synth that requires a large amount of RAM. What is your system's RAM specs? Also did you reset your vsts and rescan after the X2a update?

@Museco03 Your response on the hard drives confused me. Please repost that. The ST9750420AS seems to be for a Seagate drive, and you list both USB 3.0 and SATA - but plugged into a USB 3.0 port. So, I got confused. You have what make and model of external hard drive? And you have what make and model of internal hard drive? Also, please tell me exactly what laptop model you have And lastly, your total round trip latency is crazy high. Mine is running at under 5ms, and yours is over 50ms. Bob Bone

The laptop is an ASUS G55VW with WIN7 Home Premium 64 bit Intel Core i73610QM 12gb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M Don't know what to say about the latency ... I record hundreds of projects in a month and they all go easily ...no hangups... just this brief whiteout as the soft synth is becoming ready for use.

@musec03 OK - few more questions 1. The interface user manual shows ASIO Buffer size, but not input buffers or output buffers. Have you tried setting this to something like 8 ms? (and please explain where input buffer and output buffer are set - the values you posted earlier) 2. Did you apply the various motherboard updates found on the support page for your G55VW at ASUS? The one in particular I am curious about is the one for USB 3.0 - they show the most current driver version as - V1.0.3.214. 3. I am also a bit curious on the port you are plugging your Focusrite interface to - the support page for the interface says it must be plugged into a USB 2.0 port, and yet the documentation for your laptop indicates there are only 4 USB 3.0 ports present. Where did you get a USB 2.0 port for that laptop, to plug in your interface? 4. Where do you have Dim Pro installed? (please specify which drive for both the program and for the Multisamples Folder) Thanks - sorry for all the questions - just trying to get a complete understanding of your system and its configuration. That white screen is usually from a delay in loading - and yet your system seems quite capable of not having that sort of issue. So, digging continues... Bob Bone

OK I did some research on my own system and I do occasionally get the white screen. It happens when loading projects that have Session Drummer and Dim Pro. Mainly because I think these synths are loading stuff into RAM while other things happening with the program as well before the project fully opens. It's an annoyance at this point, but no big deal.

Thanks to Bob ...gustabo ...emwhy for helping pinpoint the cause(es) for what may turn out to be a common issue amongst users and in fact a small program overhaul. Once before I reported an issue that turned out to be an underlying cause in Cakewalk's past propensity for crashing under larger project loads in professional environments. Like gustabo & emwhy ... the issue is currently only a minor annoyance. I'm still in a session that won't end til tomorrow and X2a is the production platform. Once Bob and I reach a point of competion in the tech profile he's orchestrated, I will go to Cakewalk with the matter. The Cakewalk tech staff has been extremely helpful in my years' association with the product they represent.
