X2: I'm afraid to ask but what should I expect with take lanes or whatever they're called?
I'm about to start tracking my first big project in X2a. I'm very familiar with X1E and previous versions with the older version of the track lanes. I did a bit of messing about with them and could resolve a couple issues. In X1 and previous versions I could have multiple tracks with visible lanes but in X1 I could only have one track with visible lanes and the other tracks would collapse to a single lane. While working with multiple source instruments like Bass I will have a DI and a mic track. When I want to do overdubs and edits it is very helpful to have both tracks with their lanes exposed for correct editing. Is there a way to do this in X2?

To bring it down to its basic, its just like how la\yers worked, with the added bonus of easy muting & soloing But its SOOOO much more. Just try not to get bogged down in the "but that's not how it used to work" After all Apples and Oranges are both fruit but you eat them in different ways. :) The new Auto View feature, when enabled, prevents you being able to view more than one set of takelanes at a time (on the selected track. But you can easily turn it off, for those times when you need to see more than one tracks takelanes at a time.

i used lanes yesterday to record and then comp vocals. i had the whole song in one track with about 20 lanes. using the mute tool was easy and i was able to get the whole thing bounced to individual tracks (v1, c1, br...) in no time.

garrigus Yes, you can have lanes open on multiple tracks. You can also open/close lanes on multiple tracks quickly... just select the tracks and then Ctrl+click on the Take Lanes button of one of the selected tracks. Scott All of this is very encouraging. I've spent the last month or so (up time since a new computer build and X2 install) mostly doing mixing work. The only recording I've done is 16 track single takes of a band I'm working with preparing material and to test the system for tracking capacity. No overdubs for the most part. I just remember all the brouhaha over the take lanes that was going on while I was building my system. I really like X2 and I'm hoping the love affair continues through some recording projects. I certainly am less inclined to go back to X1 now that I've been using it for awhile. Cheers, Wm.

Track lanes seem to have marmititous - you'll either love them or hate them. I'm a lover but they do need fleshing out a little more yet.

Yes, I'm in total agreement with Karl on this. Just use them as they are, don't try to attempt things they weren't designed for and they behave ok. Hopefully the few minor niggles will be addressed in a future update. Don't forget, this is the Baker's first take (no pun intended ) on Take Lanes, and I reckon they got between 80% - 90% of it right

Sad to say but I'm 'not' one of those who like Lanes... I won't drag it all back into this thread but if you would like to hear my opinion regarding this, feel free to PM me... Keni

I have to say that I like take lanes a lot. I agree that they could do with a bit of fine tuning, but once I'd learnt to use them properly, they have worked very well. I much prefer them to layers.

I was able to select two tracks and then ctrl+click the Take Lanes button and only one lane will expand into lanes. I would like to be able to expand 10 tracks of drums into lanes so I can edit. Is that possible? I could do it with the old system although there was a huge amount of futzing around to mute and solo takes.

You have auto view on, option is found in view header at top of track view

I have been unable to get used to take lanes. My main issue is the simple fact of viewing the active take when folding the track to only see the parent. The parent always shows take 1. Always. If I'm applying some automation to a track, I don't want to be looking at a muted take. This is regardless of the order in which take lanes are stacked. Is there something I'm missing? If I can figure this out then I'm fine with them for now.
