X2 Instrument Definitions

After avoiding putting X2 on my DAW for over a year, I finally thought most of the serious bugs were addressed and I would try installing it.  So:

X2 automatically imported the instrument definitions from Sonar 7. It seems as though they were imported correctly, I believe they were. But in the event list, they do not show up, other than the first 6.

Also, the event list now forces you to use the mouse in situations where it always allowed either mouse or keyboard to move between various parameters...  my oh my, the devolution of software in action...

X2 has only been out less then eight months.

An instrument definition is not something that will show up in the Event List.

What you may need to do is associate ins def in Preferences/MIDI/Instruments with a port or hardware synth.

Well you can also use your finger.

I also suggest you get Sonar X2 Power and look at all the videos at CW U.

I don't think I explained the problem correctly.  Of course the instrument definition does not show up directly in the event list, but the PATCH LIST, created in the instrument definition sub-window does.  I've used Sonar for decades, I know what I am referring to, but perhaps I didn't explain it correctly.

In anay event, definitely another issue with X2...When I said "over a year", I was including X1.

I don't say you need the help to be obnoxious but because its a huge jump for you from Sonar 7 to X2. Nothing you are used to is the same. Just about everything has either been moved or requires a different way to access it.

I use hardware synths. 3 of them and have seen no problem with the patches. Keep in mind that one of those synths is an XV 5080 with custom patches as well as add on cards. All of those patches show up in X2 just fine. As do all the other synths.

What I need to know from you is that you are looking in the right place for seeing the patch list which can found in the track inspector.

If you are trying to insert a patch change via the Event List you need to first hit the top + sign to insert a new line. It will be the duplicate of the you are at.  All you need to do is change the event type to patch change and then you will be able to see a patch listing.

This part has not changed much through the years.

jsg - I also use plenty of external hardware synths (8 of them). You may need to touch up your routing within the instrument definitions but everything should work fine.

The Sonar X2 tutorial from Karl walks through that if you need some visuals on it.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Thanks, I may reinstall it again in a few months, particularly if a new patch comes out for X2.
I am very familiar with patch lists, assigning, routing.

I have a patch list called "VI Brass".   I have about 9 patches, actually each one is a patch group, and then I use a controller to trigger a specific articulation within that patch group.  The names were imported in Sonar 7 and look like they imported without any noticable problem.  That patch group is now assigned to an instrument, which Sonar X2 recognizes based on the friendly names in my midi in/out config window.   When I insert a patch change in the event list I should see all of those patch names as I scroll through.  I see the first 6, the rest are not there.

Sorry, this was user error.  I loaded a file that was not configured correctly.  There is no bug with the patch lists showing up correctly in the event list.  My mistake.
