X2 Is Wonderful!
OK I have to post this. I'm extremely happy with X2. I don't know what Cakewalk did, but I just have to say what a great job! I finally got around to installing X2 this evening and wow! There are so many little fixes and upgrades that SONAR is starting to finally feel like a really professional DAW. The new smart tool in the piano roll view is great, the zoom features in the track manager are amazing and the pro channel tools.. I love them! X2 solves a lot of stability issues I encountered in X1. I wish I could tell the dev team what a great job they did. X2 really is great! Thanks, Cakewalk!

I had big problems with X1 and ended up using 8.5.3 due to stability issues.
So far X2 has been performing much, much better than X1 ever did.

Hey guys, excellent thing but your testimonies are in sharp contrast with the many "complaints" concerning bugs and stability issues since the X2 release : Have you not experienced bugs that MANY users have reported ? Does the initial X2 version work fine for you or did you have to install the quickfix?

Downloaded the quick-fix but haven't installed it as yet. X2 has been remarkably stable up to now, but I haven't been pushing it in any great ways. Enjoying watching Karl's vid about X2.

Bugs are a fact of life. They will be exterminated in time. They do not take away from what X2 offers. Its a great version.

My enthusuiasm is tempered by the fact that X2 keeps crashing on one particular project for reasons I can't work out (posted it in here but no takers) but otherwise I agree. It might be a silly question but can anyone point me to a definitive 'what's new' list for X2 explaining changes to Pro Channel functionality. I've watched the short vid series but can't see it mentioned.

I'm loving it too, like new zooming tools especially, and selections seem easier and more natural. So big plus 1 from me so far. Things may change if I hit a but, but not yet.

+1! I really got into X1 from day one and have been using Sonar more than ever since I got it. X2 is a massive improvement on that - for me - and the only thing I miss is a deep audio editor so I don't have to use Soundforge for that anymore.

+1 I have had one random crash which I cannot repeat, even through doing the same things. Every other time X2 has been totally solid and seems "snappier" all round.

I find it quite stable - a couple times I had weird Assertions, but I just restarted my computer to reset memory and all was fine. I have been using it on average about 12 hours a day, and there were literally only 3 times when I chose to restart due to some sort of something being a bit messed up. That could have been also caused by my being too lazy to turn off things like antivirus or any other services or applications during my recording sessions, and doing things like playing Minesweeper while listening to playbacks. Bottom line is that I believe it to be a SIGNIFICANT move in the right direction, and have truly enjoyed laying down tracks and working with all of the subtleties of the work flow improvements that have been made. X1 was a MILESTONE release, for the complete redesign of the user interface, a rare and gutsy business decision by Cakewalk to make it easier for a larger group of folks to get their minds around using. Most companies would have never invested so much time, effort, or money, in something that involved so much essentially transparency. Changing the 'look and feel' of something generally never gets funded in the business world. X2 has expanded on that, in a great way, and I am 100% behind where they are taking this. Bob Bone

It's clear from the variety of experiences from very good to, man does this thing crash a lot, that the PC environment can play a very big part in the quality of experience you have. For me X1 was the DAW from hell, kind of a Mr Hyde to X2's Dr. Jekyll. On the same PC X2 is just so smooth and crash free its hard to imagine that it's only the next version of SONAR. I'm a power user and while I concede there's some bugs, there hasn't been 1 crash for me. Not even a white screen lock up when following recipes provided by others that spell a certain crash. Go figure. 2 years ago I was blitzing this forum with one complaint after another - now with X2 even without the current Quick fix SONAR is just that good. I'm Finally In a position where I wish I'd been before I had to take retirement. Now that it doesn't really matter too much how stable my DAW is I get one that's pretty much the best Cakewalk product release I've been a part of in more than 15 years. How's that for irony? Anyway Cakewalk have done a great all round job from the coding to the release including support and backup from the Cake team on this forum.

X2 is a massive improvement on that - for me - and the only thing I miss is a deep audio editor so I don't have to use Soundforge for that anymore. ...Especially since it seems like Sony has all but abandoned Sound Forge. (It's been about 3 yrs since v 10 came out.) CW is trying to make Sonar so you really don't need much software outside their package (that's not going to work; I'm not entirely convinced about ProChannel yet), so a real audio editor would be great. Anyway, I've actually had more crashes with X2 than X1, but I'm loving the X2 feature updates to death. I didn't really get X1 up and running until about X1c. I was going to wait a while on X2, but changed my mind and did the pre-sale. I'm glad I did. The new features take some of the tedium out of moving around and editing. I didn't really like the Smart Tool until now. And CW often adds new features in their bug updates. Can't wait to see what's next. Maybe one day they'll finally dump Radius for Elastique Pro... (Watch any YouTube Cubase 6 video on tempo change: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeFdSDsjyu4 . 'Would remove offline mode and probably remove all those complaints about AudioSnap.)

Sonar Platinum (64-bit); many CW PC modules; endless plugins (most of which SPLAT doesn't list); Edirol PCR-800; Win10 Pro 64-bit; Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 interface; lots of hardware I don't actually use anymore; 1972 Rickenbacker 4001 bass (Chris Squire days); other basses, guitars, mics, etc.

No problems here... I'm REALLY loving X2. Very stable for me, and the change in the interface from 8.5 has made working with it so much easier for me. The only "hiccup" I've experienced was during a session where I hadn't turned off my Virus "real time scanning". I agree with mudgel... the PC environment is so widely varying that it's got to be a nightmare for software developers. I try to get my system down to the bare minimum. I've removed all unnecessary programs/processes from my start up (which, because this is a "store bought" computer, included a lot of automatic update checks), I'm not connected to the Internet and I turn off my Virus program's real time scanning before starting any X2 session. I'm thinking this helps my stability.

No stability issues for me (haven't needed to d/l the quickfix). But I had no stability issues with X1 either. Agree this is a great upgrade; it's the little things they fixed that I appreciate the most so far.

Before the patch I had about 50 crashes and couldn't be bothered recording anything because I was probably going to lose it. I ended up just dragging loops in from the browser to explore the new features and X2 was still crashing frequently. Now, with the 'quickfix' installed it is very stable indeed although I have noticed a couple of small oddities. Overall, I am very very impressed by X2, I really like the decisions the Bakers have made here. To me it seems pretty much gapless and the improved timeline zoom, track auto zoom, and all the other cool surprises are things I would not want to be without now. Those first few days with all the crashes though let me understand some of the frustration guys like mudgel and Bub must have been feeling with X1.

Has anyone had a project that didn't load becauase two of the same vsti are loaded? I'm getting this error on some of my older projects and I'm wondering if it's because I'm using a 64-bit OS now and the 64-bit version of SONAR.

@Combo FWIW - You may already be aware, but if one project in particular is unstable, hold the shift key down while opening the project and start it in safe mode. Add one plug at a time until you can diagnose. This happened to me the other day and I was able to track the instability to that weird Cronus.dll (v-vocal) problem that has been an issue with others in the past. First time I've had to deal with it, but after I removed V-Vocal all was well... V
