X2: Loading FX In Pro channel As Opposed To 'Traditional' Place
Hi guys. I loaded up a default project to take a look around and saw some of the plugins had been loaded into the pro channel (Boost 11 and LP64) as opposed to being loaded in the traditional place of the 'FX' (above the sends). How can this be done and what is the difference? Apologies if it has been answered I can't seem to find anything on it.

Are you saying that your seeing them (Boost 11 and LP64) load as pro channel plugins and not in your effect bin as VST's? I guess thats an upgrade i didn't notice. To get your default project to load the way you want, just make a project template and save it as your default template. Cj

I haven't installed X2 yet, so I could be off the mark with this, but I believe X2 includes ProChannel to be modular now, so you can drag (I think) any effects into the ProChannel and use it from there, although you'll be limited to the # of buttons available for a ProChannel interface, as opposed to opening the effect GUI up to gain access to other features. Hope this helps. Russ

I'd call this a bug. Maybe good idea to report it to Cake. Unless you can at least drag the effect back to the fxbin where you wanted it. Can this be done? I guess that would be referred to as a nusance.

Did you know that in track view, the FX bin stretches with the vertical size of a track. Shame it doesn't do the same in console view.

Okay guys, so I'm on the demo project 'Jodi - Where did It Go'. If you click on the Mixdown and bring up the 'ProCh' on the left then we get LP-64 Multiband and Boost 11 showing up IN the pro channel. Same with LeadVox, at the top of the pro-channel is a Deesser. Just wondering how this is done, and why you would do it this way? I can get a screenshot if you guys still not sure what I mean.

Are you talking about VST's inserted in the FX Chain module in Pro Channel? If that is what you're seeing, it isn't weird.

I don't know why a pre-X2 project you created would open with FX in the ProChannel. I do think that is a bug. As for using FX in the Pro Channel, it's pretty awesome. You can add FX to the Pro Channel by inserting an FX Chain module, or by dragging and dropping from the browser. There are a number of reasons to do this. 1. Added gain structure 2. Added ability to control FX settings using Quick Groups- once you create buttons/knobs for the FX chain where you added the plugin you can control the same parameter on the same plugin in multiple tracks at the same time. You can already do this with the Pro Channel EQ, for instance, to add High Pass filters to all tracks at once by selecting all tracks, holding CTRL and enabling the Pro Channel to all, then (still holding CTRL) go to one of the tracks and turn on the high pass filter, grab the frequency and roll it up. Now this kind of control is available for all plugins from any manufacturer through the FX Chains in the Pro Channel! 3. Desired signal flow- now PC modules are not stuck before or after the FX bin, but FX can now be routed as desired I'm in an internal debate on when/where/if I will use the normal FX bin in the future. The Bypass All and Bypass All of this Type for the regular FX bins are helpful, and seeing plugins for all tracks at once when looking at the console view can be helpful too, but the quick grouping and routing make the Pro Channel bin a winner in many situations. Peace, Tunes

Ah right! Thanks guys, I didn't know this could be done! I thought it was new for X2. Will begin experimenting.

timidi Adji. if you load an old project with effects in the in the old fxbin and sonar puts them in the PC, can you drag them back to the fx bin? thanks SONAR won't randomly move anything out of an FX Bin and into a ProChannel FX Chain. You'd need to do it manually/intentionally. I believe the original poster opened the demo project. But yes... you can drag plug-ins out of the Effects page of a ProChannel FX Chain and into an FX Bin, if you want to. But an entire FX Chain would need to be saved as an FX Chain Preset and then loaded into a track FX Bin via right-click or by dragging from the browser. Here's a Cakewalk Blog post that explains the feature, for those of you that are curious. http://blog.cakewalk.com/sonar-x2-feature-peak-prochannel-fx-chains/ And the topic in the manual: http://cakewalk.com/Documentation/default.aspx?Doc=SONAR%20X2&Lang=EN&Req=ProChannel.9.html#1294471

Thanks Bill. I was imagining something like the DimPro switch from dxi to Vst debacle.

The X2 demo project "Jodi Good Where did we go" has the new Pro Channel VST chain being used as the OP noticed. To the OP X2 allows putting a VST in the Pro Channel.

Quick question! I tried dragging my Audiffex GK bass amp sim in to PC. I got no output and no sign of a signal to the sim. Is there something I'm missing in the signal chain? It works fine in the FX bin but no go when you drag it in to PC. This is X2 64. Could it be because the GK is a 32 bit plug? I toggled all the on buttons in the PC to make sure it was on. Anyone having any issues like this?

Thanks,John! I'm wondering why does it work fine in the FX bin in 64 but not the PC. Is there something in the structure of PC that doesn't allow the bridge? Not a big issue as long as it works in the FX bin.

I can confirm that (at least some) 32-bit bridged plugins work fine in Pro Channels FX Chains. I've done this with UAD plugs and they work great. :-)
