X2 - Midi Input Issues
Hi Gang... Methinks I've found another bug? I can't assign None to MIDI input on a MIDI track... and wven tho Input Echo is off, continued MIDI input intended for another track is playing on tracks it should not... As a work around, I assigned the non-desired track to a different MIDI input... Not the way things should work, eh? Off to the Problem Reporter... Keni

Hi - I do not have enough information from your post to understand how your tracks are set up. Can you please elaborate on what the settings are for the tracks you are indicating are playing together? Also, I would like to know what track or tracks are in focus when this issue is occurring for you. Anything else you think would help me understand what you are seeing would also be great. I will try to help figure this out with you, Bob Bone

I have 2 VSynths setup One is Session Drummer 3 and I've got it's part recorded. I'm using the old format of separate MIDI and Synth tracks. The MIDI track is set to Either ALL Inputs - OMNI or My individual (Audiobox) input still Omni... Input Echo is Off and in the preferences I do not allow "Always Echo Current MIDI Track" (disables) and my active track is a different synth to boot... The second synth is VSampler and all the settings are the same except for Input Echo being ON... If I play the external keyboard feeding the MIDI input it is triggering both synths... I'm gonna toggle all switches yet again and see if anything is different... Keni

OK - I'll see if I can figure something out for you - be about 30 minutes. Bob Bone

Sorry this took so long to get back to you. I set up a project to test this out. Synth Rack, loaded a minimoog and SD3 both have presets loaded (lead and classic rock kit) 4 tracks - 2 pairs of audio and midi tracks, 1 pair for each synth Track Settings: Track1- Audio: Input: Minimoog Stereo Output - Output: Master Track2 - Midi: Input: Omni - Output: Minimoog Synth Track3 - Audio: Input: SD3 Stereo Output - Output: Master Track4 - Midi: Input: Omni - Output: SD3 I have ZERO trouble playing each sound separately, by changing focus toone mid track or the other. I have to think SOMETHING is set differently in your project. Please reply with info like I have placed above, AND email your project to me and I will open it on my system, sub for the VSampler, and try to debug it that way. (To that end, I have sent a private message to you with my private email, and you can attach your project folder - zipped). It's got to be something - so let's figger it out. Bob Bone

You are setup essentially the same as I so you got my info correct... the only difference is that it sounds as tho you have the "Always Echo Current MIDI Track" enabled and you are changing focus from one midi track to the other... I have that disabled so that I must manually enable Input Echo on each track when I want it to be so... But here's a new bit of info... In the preferences, I enabled, then disabled the "Always Echo Current MIDI Track" and it seems to have stopped... Maybe somehow the switch was "wrong" but showed as correct until I manually toggled it back and forth... A sticky digital switch? ;-) But I'm still curious why I can't assign "None" to a MIDI input anymore... and how/why did this situation occur to begin with? Maybe to do with the Mod I have installed but I did remove it and test without it getting the same results... ...and I wasn't focused on the unintended MIDI track when it was responding (and shouldn't have been)... I've also noticed that the Input Echo button keeps getting lighted without my action but I'm guessing that might be related to the Mod and I've reported that to the author... I have not yet seen if it's doing this last item without the Mod.... Thanks for sticking with me... Keni

Keni? Are you there? I will be up for another 45 minutes, in case you have a chance to respond. If not, I will look for your reply tomorrow. Bob Bone

Uh - WHAT mod? PLEASE explain. Also, I do not understand what you mean when you say you cannot assign None for a midi input. What exactly are your choices when you open up the drop-down list? I would submit that SOMETHING must be different, as I do not have the troubles you are having, and it appears that nobody else is either. So, I believe we must be EXTREMELY methodical and detailed in going back and forth on this. Further, I believe for the purpose of debugging this, that you should EXACTLY match the settings I am using, because it all works on my system, and I would like to start with getting yours working, and THEN we can tweak things to try to figure out what causes it to break at your end. But first, let's match wherever possible. I will send you a private message with my email and cell number, so that we can also try to speed up the debugging process. I am available most of this weekend. So, check your messages for one from me with my contact info. Bob Bone

I'm ok now as it appears to be working fine... Must have been something about the toggle for auto-echo and me not realizing I had switched focus to the other midi track??? Mods.... If you're not familiar with them... Panu (panup here on the forum) creates skins for Sonar to change the colors of things we're no longer able to change from within Sonar... He is also currently finished "Duckbar" which along with easier manipulation of the mods and methods for doing your own widget coloring/editing now includes a toolbar to replace the SonarPlus toolbar made by Ben for X1.... It's been found previously that sometimes these changes affect other things than the appearance and I am now diligent to verify my bugs without the Mod installed to be sure it's not the cause of the problem... You can check out his work (it's all free) at: http://sonarmods.com/sonarmods/forum/index.php Simply create a free account and join the forum... then you can have access to the download area for Mods and Duckbar... All My Best... Keni

It's usually the little things that bite the hardest. This is why I try to make sure the details match - glossing over things can cost a LOT of time. So, you are working fine now? Bob Bone

Bob Bone Hi Bob... Somewhat... I keep experiencing oddities and some that are intermittent... X1 is working fine on this rig BTW... I allowed the install the copy my X1 settings... Then I dbl-checked and fixed a few items... as I know it always seems to miss some setting somewhere... The issue of this thread (multiple synths playing) seems gone since I toggled the "Allways Echo Current" option (?)... and I can now select the "None" MIDI input if I should need it. The odd problems I was having with Input Echo seeming to engage on it's own randomly must have been related to that as well tho I was thinking this was my Mod's problem and now have to apologize there too as it's been fine since I "cured" the above issue with the dbl-toggle... I've been having a number of issues with intermittent items in X2 which I've not had in any previous incarnation from The Bakers... I'm about to mention (in another thread) another intermittent issue which I believe I read other posts about.... (disappearing graphics for Console Emulator)... Thanks for your help... I'm working now and dealing with the issues as quickly as I can get used to the changes and work arounds... Keni

Thanks for the update. Please start up another set of threads for other issues you are having - leave them separate so we won't get in a jumble, and the folks in our happy little padded community will start looking through and hopefully fixing them. Bob Bone
