X2 - Playback Scrolling Waveform, Stationary Cursor?

How do I set X2 so that when I play back the cursor stays in the center of the tracks window and the waveforms scroll past it? What it's doing now is going page to page instead of realtime scrolling.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that's possible. The cursor is called the Now time because it is inextricably linked to following the current time on the timeline. For it to remain stationary, the project would have to be stopped.

There may be some workaround I don't know about (wouldn't be the first time) but I think the way Sonar is designed, it's kind of like asking your car to stay in the same place but have the highway move under you.

interesting - wasn't this possible in previous versions? I would have sworn it was - I've been a user since V6...

I don't recall this existing previously, but maybe those who still have 8.5 installed could give a definitive answer.

I believe there was a way prior to the X-Series, maybe keyboard shortcut G. AFAIK it is not available in the X-Series. There is a global function called "Center View on Now Time" which can be bound to a key. Holding the key during playback will cause Now Time to stay centered.

Hope you have a good graphics card! I would think the reason it and all audio software I use works this way is it's much more efficient for the graphics to re draw a little moving line than a complicated landscape of wave forms etc.

so weird - I know this was possible in 6, and I could swear I did it in 8 and 8.5 as well. zoomed in close enough that it looked like on oscilloscope.

    I think you're mistaken.

I've never known this to be a feature of Sonar and I DO know that several people have asked for this over the years, and the answer has always been, "nope, it can't do that"
