X2 - Remote control
I've set my midi controller to use the 9th fader as a master fader by right clicking on the master fader > remote control > controller > LEARN. And it works beautifully. I can close the program, reopen it and the master fader will still work. BUT, I have one of my two sets of outputs, the mute buttons on it are grouped, and I can set the remote control for one of my BUTTONS on my midi controller to operate the MUTE buttons. When I close it and reopen it, my master fader remembers it's assignment, but the MUTE for the button does not, the grouping is still there. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to make the remote control assignment stick for the remote control on the mute buttons. I originally tried "remote control" on the send that goes to that particular output. The remote control would turn the power button off and on, but the sound would still go through. It worked the power button "light" but did not affect the signal flow.

I tried to set up one of the faders on my Axiom Pro 61 to control the Master fader in Sonar, and couldn't seem to get that to work. If I can get this stuff working at least to where you have it working, I will try to help figure out what's preventing the saving of the learned functions you are posting about. But I need to figure out why I can't even get the master fader to learn anything. Maybe my Axiom Pro 61 rode the short bus and can't learn? Bob Bone

What I did, I was in my screen set 5 which is the mixer. Hovered my mouse over the dead center of the fader for the MASTER FADER. I right clicked on it and chose remote control. When the remote control screen came up, I clicked on the radio button for CONTROLLER. I clicked LEARN, then I moved the FADER on my Axiom. Then I clicked LEARN again.... worked the fader again... clicked LEARN 1 more time. Moved the fader and clicked OK. That seemed to lock it in.

OK - still playing around with it, but did manage to get faders to be controlled by my Axiom Pro 61. I will see if I can test this other stuff out for you a bit later on today and will post back with an update. Bob Bone

I will say that it was one giant pain in the butt to get these set up. Sometimes it would not seem to work. Other times, it would work too well, and one fader would control another fader as well. It seemed - like it looks like you found out, that I had best results when clicking Learn, moving the fader, clicking Learn again, and moving the fader again. I did notice that it would assign a different numerical value to the controller the 2nd or 3rd time I would click on Learn. That seemed to get it right, but I can't for the life of me understand why this would need to bew done multiple times. Bob Bone

When I set up the 8 regular faders and knobs with an old Oxygen 61, I had that exat same problem. I wonder if M-audio's stuff is sending out signals sometimes when it shouldn't be. I would see this happen again and again when setting ACT control for the Oxygen and the Axiom. I've thought about getting my hands on an Maudio power adapter and hooking up midi cables and removing the USB cable to see if that fixes the problem. I've had decent luck with ACT, but sometimes I wish the program would allow me to specify how I want my buttons to work and I haven't got that completely figured out. I use ACT control surface for 8 of the faders and 8 of the buttons and the rotaries. The only thing I don't like is, I would like to be able to set the buttons up a little differently. I like RTZ on the end. I like bank left and bank right, but the rest of them I'd like to change. And I really hate that you have to hit them twice (double click?) to get them to function. I use Cakewalk Generic Surface for the TRANSPORT buttons. I use REMOTE control for the 9th fader and the 9th button. But I have to keep reprogramming the 9th button every time I open.... The fader stays with me though.

I revisited this problem today... I was having all kinds of wierd midi issues today.... The old problem - I could assign a button on my midi control to MUTE an output. Close PROGRAM... open some other time, the remote was FORGOTTEN. I could re-assign it... but that gets annoying when it should remember it. WORKAROUND - CREATE NEW BUS (labeled it PREVIEW). On the master bus - inserted SEND to PREVIEW bus. Routed that bus to that particular output. Assigned the button (via right clicking on the SOLO button on the PREVIEW bus) > remote control > contoller > push the 9th button on my controller > learn. WORKS LIKE A CHARM!!! :) Now, I can save the file.... open it, and remote control assignment for that button STICKS and works like its supposed to (for me at least). Now I've got the 9th fader permanently fixed to my MASTER... and with the push of a button, I can silence everything but the headphones.
