X2 doesnt respond to vs-100 fader move~ but VS100 responds when i adjust fader in X2? hmm.

Hello all, this is my first post here.. I have had my X2 Pro for about 3 weeks now and am getting rather familiar with it.. I just received my VS-100 3 days ago, and was planning on using it as a control surface for X2 Pro.. I have went through and assigned most of my commands using the ACT Learn function.. I am pretty sure that all of my MIDI settings and control surface settings are right... MY issue is that track view in X2 doesnt follow or record fader movement from the VS-100.. Its really starting to annoy me.. I can, however, click the fader on X2 and drag it and the physical fader of the controller moves.. But what good does this do me? LOL.. This makes me think that its a midi send issue from vs or midi receive issue in X2.. But all other ACT functions are working properly.. Can anyone see if they can make sense of this?? thanks! =)

    In EDIT->PREFERENCES->MIDI->CONTROL SURFACES

do you have both the "In Port" and the "Out Port" pointed to your VS-100 Control?

Yes sir!! but its still not working.. I'm not sure if it matters, but I wonder if it has something to do with the Windows 8 drivers? Im not sure.. thanks for trying.. =/

Why not try using the VS-100’s controller/surface default mappings to see if that works before editing them with ACT learn. As pointed out above the most common reason for what you are seeing is because the VS-100's midi device has been chosen for the "in port" or "out port" instead of the VS-100 control.

I tried using the default mappings but due to aesthetics and just the positioning of my controller, I like to assign the lower left rotary encoders for most of my tweaking needs especially on the channel strip.. even at default the fader doesnt work.. the vs pretty much functions acceptably other than the fader.. i can use the two buttons to the left of the fader to toggle between tracks and shift/toggle to busses... Im starting to wonder if i have a faulty unit.. but yes the controller is set to vs-100 control for both input and output.. I sure hope tech support can help.. thanks for your input though!

If the other controls are working bi-directionally but the slider is not it is starting to sound like a defective unit.  I found the setup very straight forward and it just works for me with the defaults.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! there has to some setting in sonar... I just received the second unit, un-installed/re-installed the drivers, and the same thing is still happening.. the fader moves on the VS when i click/drag a fader in X2, but Sonar does nothing when I move the fader physically.. All other ACT functions work. Controller is set to SONAR, DAW FULL ASSIGN, the other encoders adjust parameters in the channel strip, i can pan, but the fader DOES NOTHING! .. super frustrated, especially because this is probably such an easy fix.. =/

OK, so if we have a good unit, and it is working for me but not you my first thought is are we looking at the same thing and expecting the same result.  In track view, with the track showing in the inspector and the ACT selected color showing on the track when viewed in Console view, when I move the slider on the VS-100 the graphic representation of the slider moves in synch with my physically moving the slider.  What I'm hearing you say is that looking at the same thing, when you physically move the slider on the VS-100 the sliders in the inspector and on the console view do not move.  Are we talking about the same thing?

Correct... when I physically move the slider on the VS-100 the sliders in the inspector and on the console view do not move... But if I click on the slider and drag it down to lower or raise the level of the track, then my physical fader WILL move.. The only thing that this is hindering is my ability to write automation.. The physical slider WILL READ automation.. But for some reason it seems as if (A) the VS is not sending the midi msgs to SONAR, or (B) Sonar is not receiving the mesgs.. It may not even be that.. There is in Utility>VS-100 menu an option inside the app for my vs-100, an option to disable fader movement).. But this option is not checked.. Therefore, I should have fader movement.. And I do have movement when i manually (point & click) automate it and play it back.. But not if I write it with the fader.. I'm kind of stumped.. Pretty much in a nutshell, when i move the fader on the VS it produces no effect on screen.. But it will the opposite way.. I appreciate your diligence and your help very much.. thanks again.

Be sure that you have MIDI input to your VS 100 setup properly from Sonar.

Also in Preferences under Control Surfaces you might want to select your VS 100 and at the bottom you will see check boxes for configuring how and what is mirrored.

OK I would remove the keyboard from the VS 100 and give it its own port.

Also try changing the setup from control strips visible in all to Console View in Control Surfaces. This is just a test.

Would you post the setup dialog for your VS 100 (screen shot). This is accessed in the CS module on the Control Bar.

    Controlling tracks
    To control tracks
Hold down the SHIFT modifier button and push TRACK </> until the LCD display shows TRAK.
The channel strip now controls the selected track.

This is from the help file for the VS 100.

OK I would remove the keyboard from the VS 100 and give it its own port.

I can see where the keyboard might be causing command issues that could result in the slider input not being recognized.  Like John suggester, I would try this from a reboot without the keyboard plugged in and see if the slider works.

I'm wondering if you have the right input MIDI for Sonar from the VS 100? Try changing the selection for the in port in your Preferences Control Surfaces. Thats the first screen shot you posted.

We understood the problem though the video was nice.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe there is a switch or button that controls this on the VS 100.
