X2 first tryout - Folders still do not work properly

Cloning the last track in a folder causes it to drop out of the folder.

If there is a second folder, it will drop into that folder.
Unless that second folder is empty. In this case, it will drop right past that folder and end up at the bottom. Bizarre.

Dragging and dropping a track to the bottom position of a folder also causes it to drop out of the folder.

This has been broken since Sonar 4.

Yeah... that stuff is all buggy and annoying. Always have to hunt around for cloned tracks and drag them to where they should be.

It wouldn't be so bad if you COULD drag them to where they should be.

You have to drag them one position ABOVE where they should be, and then drag the last track to above the now second-last one!

X2 was supposed to have been the culmination of the workflow improvements started in X1.

I still have no comfortable way of recording multiple takes of a full band (which can mean 14 tracks at once in my case). I hoped Folders would be the solution. The helpful members of this forum suggested I try layers (but they did add warnings).

I upgraded to X2 because Take Lanes would be the answer...

Well recording multiple takes on multiple tracks shouldn't be a problem. I've done it quite a few times. Just as long as the audio on the takes is overlapping it has created a new lane with each new take consistently and they seem to stay in the proper order. Couldn't say that about layers though.

That said I could see it becoming a PITA as far as muting the previous takes when dealing with say an entire drum kit or band. I have yet to find a setting that automatically mutes the previous take. I'm sure it's in there though. If not that's a major design flaw.

OK, I have to invest some time learning the Lanes.

I shall print out a previous thread that went into their shortcomings (including the one you mention) first, though.

when cloning, i always set the starting track to the track i'm cloning -1 to avoid that headache. e.g. if i'm cloing track number 22 in a folder, i set the starting track in the cloning options to 21.
