X2 force redraw wave forms - another X2 productivity setback

How does X2 force a redraw of the wave forms? Do you still delete the picture files? I have an older project that will not draw the wave forms.

Yet another setback by X2 to my productivity. I am tempted to start a 'Where is the X2b update' thread...

Peace,

I looked at where my picture cache was located and deleted all the files. This will force a redraw of all project wave forms. This has given me my missing wave forms. I wish I wouldn't have to do all this extra stuff.

Deleting the picture cache takes less time than complaining about it.

It's certainly not perfect, but it does work.

I don't mind complaining about something that should have worked in the first place that I paid money for. There have just been a lot of little things that are killing my workflow and inspiration working with X2. I keep trying to use X2 because I refuse to buy something and not use it. I am trying to get used to the Z2 workflow changes but keep hitting walls.

    Understood.

Every single vendor's DAW software has issues, some major, most minor.

Most of the time, workarounds, such as deleting the picture cache once in a while, are just part of it all.  :)

There's a command called Recompute... I'm not at the daw now so i can't tell you how to show that command.

I think that option displays when you right-click on a clip.  But if there are many clips it probably is more efficient to just empty the folder.

FWIW, I've recomputed a handful of clips since X1, and I couldn't tell you the last time I emptied the folder.  I know that doesn't really help, but it does make me wonder what specific system properties come into play with things like this.

Well, I'm still not at the daw, but I remember you need to select one option from the right-click menu before seeing the Recompute command. Also, maybe selecting multiple audio clips and running Recompute redraws waveforms of all the selected clips?

Anyway, if it's not the feature the OP is looking for, then I don't know what he's after. I wish he had added this "another X2 productivity setback" part to the thread title AFTER making sure the feature doesn't indeed exist in X2, because Sonar haters from other daw forums might see it and keep advertising Sonar is a BAD daw.

    @OP:
Next time, prepare two versions of posts. Make the first one VERY rude and let off steam, and then make the second one polite and post the latter only ; )

Ah, yes, I'm at the daw now and it's this:

    1. Select audio clips whose waveforms you want to redraw
    2. Right-click on one of the clips and click "Associated Audio Files"
    3. Click the "Recompute Picture(s)" button

Of course, if you want to redraw waveforms of all audio clips of all projects, clearing the Picture Cache folder is the fastest way to go.

why on earth would the waveform pics "get lost" in the first place?

They don't get lost, they become stale, meaning the datestamp on the decimated wave file ("pictures" are actually copies of the clip with most of the samples removed) is older than the datestamp on the actual clip. Normally, this triggers an automatic recalculation, but that won't happen if the disk space used by all pictures has exceeded your configured maximum. Then, you have to either manually force a recalc or delete some pictures to make room. If you have plenty of disk space available, set the cache size to some large value, e.g. several gigabytes.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
