X2 install question please....

Good day all....

I'm looking for some guidance so I don't have any installation furballs or PMO's.

I've been using the X2 trial demo this last week for familiarity until my X2PE (box version, thank you very much) shows up this week.

Should I open the trial version and just add the registration #'s to install/activate all?  (which I'm wary of for some ignorant reason)
Or, just put in the new X2 disc and install from the beginninig ignoring the trial version all together and leave it installed?
Should one UNINSTALL the trial and then insert the X2PE dvd and install?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Carry on....

No. Wait for the full version to arrive. Uninstall the trial and install the full version. Also get the A patch. Until then have fun.

    Hey John....

Curious....the salesperson I talked to said to go ahead an install over the trial.
Not taking issue with his suggestion/knowledge and maybe that approach would work as he states.
For some reason I just wasn't totally comfortable with it.
IMO....if there is a remote chance of anything ugly occuring during the install I want to avoid it.

Ha...hence...I came to this think tank for some hands on feedback.

Thanks for chiming in with the guidance.

The installations are seperate so there is no installing "OVER".
The only registration codes for the demo version are to allow you the 30 days of use.

You cannot make the demo the full version of Sonar.

Uninstall the demo before installing the full version when you receive the disks.

You will then need to update to Sonar X2a.

The trial is not going to work after the alloted time. There is no good reason to have it on your system. Sure the full version will install in its own directory and the two will not interfere with one another. Yet I see no reason to hang on to software that is non functional.

I think it will be less a problem if you uninstall it before you install the full version rather than latter after you install the full version.

Hey kevo.... Ha...the 'over' word the salesperson used concerned me so here I am getting the user facts. I'll be doing what you and John suggest. Your comments also clear up the demo registration thing which I would not have understood clearly. Belly up to the bar all...I'm buying....it's after 05:00 pm somewhere. :) EDIT: Thx John..makes sense to me.

There's apparently more to uninstalling Sonar than just uninstalling it.

There are detailed instructions floating around though I can't find them.

That is overkill. You don't need to go into removing registry entries and stuff. This is a simple thing that shouldn't cause you any trouble.

Those instructions are when one is having problems and needs to start from a pristine point. I wouldn't worry about it in this situation.

Hey John... I remember doing the reg deletions up to my Sonar5.0PE purchase. I'm glad that's not an issue any more. Thanks....

Actually it still is but I believe its for the full versions. The demo wont have as many or be as important if you know what I'm getting at. Its not something to worry about.

Yo comprendo....y gracias. If I'm lucky I should receive my treat tomorrow. I'm getting used to the interface albeit slowly. What I can't find is the way to UNCHECK 'On Stop return to NOW marker' which may be a just a crippler within the trial version. Later....

Its in the option menu in the TV pane. Uncheck if you don't want it to do that. I like it that way myself. If you are looking for pause that is Ctr+ Spacebar.

No big deal. X2 is going to be a very different version from Sonar 5. There will be a whole new way of doing many things. I believe X2 is far and away better but it will take some getting used to.

We are here to help in the transition. But the most important thing is HAVE FUN! It doesn't matter if this part of your livelihood or not it should be a fun thing to do.

I also like the way you are approaching this. Keep up the good work.

    Concurance here....

I don't do music for money (a living of sorts) anymore.
I write/record as my creative therapy knowing anything I write is not in the mass appeal genre anway.
I wouldn't put up with all the band BS again for all the opium in India. (well...maybe a slight exaggeration)

I knew of the paradigm change but that's no big deal to me.
I'm sure I'll have some inane queries to foist upon the forum as I delve deeper.

    Thanks....
