X2 on a Windows 7 computer updated from Vista
I'll bet this has already been asked and answered but has any X2 user updated Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 64bit successfully as apposed to a clean install? Yes I know that it is recommended to do a clean install but I'm only interested in knowing if there are any success stories out there so I'm requesting to hear just from those members.

hi, I upgraded exactly as you describe in your post, was running 8.5.3 in Vista 64bit and upgraded to win 7 64bit specifically for upgrading to X2 (and now X2a) which I`m running in 64bit. Didn`t bother with a clean install although from what I read in this forum it is recommended. The whole process was painless and X2a is running flawlessly. Hope your experience will be as good as mine. All the best Mark

From memory I had only one program that was incompatible which was an old audio editor so no hardship and I made sure to back up everything I felt important. I would recommend running this which will give you good idea on any programs you will have an issue with : http://windows.microsoft....nloads/upgrade-advisor Had no problems with any VST`s everything survived the transition and was in place with the correct folder structure, exactly as it was in Vista, in fact the first thing I checked once up and running was Sonar and after a quick vst scan I was away and running. I was one of the few Vista fans, I had very few problems and found it a good OS for my DAW but Win 7 is a step up IMO, I`m sure you won`t regret it. Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on. Mark

I upgraded (without clean install) from Vista 64 to Win 7 64 - not a 100% positive experience (there are some minor glitches that I have noticed), but all my programs, including X2 work fine (or as fine as can be - X2 is still a little buggy, but that's not the OS's fault). What I could NOT manage to do, however, was to upgrade to Win 8 64 - I attempted to install it last week to no avail. Spent 4 hours troubleshooting it with MS tech support and they just gave up! I have to do a clean install if I want Win 8.

Again thank you my friend, I'm going to back up my computer with Acronis to an external hard drive. I am also a fan of vista but I'm looking to include Maschine Mikro MK2 into the setup and it's system requirement is Windows 7.

A clean install is a much much better way to do things. Upgrades are always messy.

Alex..if you read my original post I said I was aware that a clean install was a recommendation of the concensus. I Don't Care about that right now. I want to ONLY hear about upgrades and unless you've done BOTH please abstain from responding.

I said "Upgrades are ALWAYS messy" - that was not a recommendation and was NOT what you wrote originally. Did I read your post fully? - Answer YES. Have I done upgrades before? - h*ll yeah more times then you've had hot dinners. Thankyou for your Christmas cheer Mr Grinch.

Alex I read your post, the question is did you read mine? What I've asked for is pretty simple to grasp. I want to hear from those who have upgraded from vista to 7 successfully. You have twice stated no specifics and seem more interested in generalities and telling me what you think I don't know. I want to know from those with success stories, not from those who've had "messy" experiences. As far as I know you might be bad at upgrading and Mark might be good at it. Now I don't want to go back and forth with you Alex, perhaps you're only trying to help me or maybe you just want a forum fight, I'm not sure. I'm not interested in the latter so if you do want to help please re-read my original post and state if you've had a "successful" experience upgrading from Vista to 7 because that's the information I want.
