X2 or not to X2?
Downloaded the free copy of X2 last night, tried it and uninstalled this so called New Version! The only feature that was remotely interesting is the BREVERB which is a similar approach to what every other music DSP developer employs. There's where the excitememt ends! The rest of the software is mostly minor improvements that Roland has decided to call an Upgrade rather than a "We fixed X1 so here ya go people"! What are you guys thinking?
I can't believe that I'm still considering Sonar as a future option! I have used Cakewalk since 1988 and started with Version 1.0 for DOS 6.22. When Cakewalk started with Windows 95 I was sceptical and did not come on board til Sonar 1.0 for Windows 98. Since then I have purchased the odd copy being version 5, 8.5 and X1 and now must say I will not shell out more money and continue to be insulted by the Roland developers assuming they think they know what I want.
I am an actual musician/recording engineer and not a dabbler that wants to experiment and see if I can make this software make automated music for me. If that's the clientel you're looking to service then this is where I get off the bus! Over the years I have purchased a lot of Roland equipment which included 2 FP8 Grand Pianos, 7 Sound Canvas modules, 10 other Rack Mount Modules, Roland Strat GM70 Synth, Fantom XR, GT-Pro, and on & on (this is a short list). To say the least I have been a loyal hardware customer and a loyal Cakewalk software customer until now. Since my concerns have gone by the wayside (I asked for colors & markers to be brought back) and you ignored my requests claiming there aren't enough people asking for these features. My eyesight is lousy and the amount of informatioin on the screen is so small I can't read the contents of the characters in the fields (hence the color request). Grey on Grey are boring Atari colors. The Markers are something that any recording studio PRODUCER uses every minute that he or she is in the recording studio. Even the Pro Tape Decks had the producers shouting praises to the engineers for the feature that made their lives less stressfull.
You guys keep pounding your chest claiming "look what we have done here" and all I have to say is get over it, that's what you are paid to do. You didn't invent Cakewalk, you are only paid to improve it! If it ain't broke don't touch it! Why someone would remove features is beyond my scope of reasoning!
I thought Sonar 8.53 was the "CATS ASS" and X1 was going to be "BE ALL, END ALL" when in reality it has become "SHELF-WARE" in my studio.
One mad former customer who keeps on hoping that someone with some clout can change the way you guys operate and get back to customer service!
