X2 to X3 discount after a few mths--Am I Off Base???

So I bought X2 Upgrade June 31. Then X3 comes out a few months later. Is it unrealistic for me to expect some type of discount seeing as I have only had X2 for a few months? I did reach out to customer service and asked. I basically got the "tough luck for you". I have spent well over $1000.00 with CW over the years. I would think they would take care of my request.

I'm not paying $149 after just paying $100 a few mths prior.

Maybe I'm wrong thinking that. Just curious on everybody else thoughts.

Thanks

This topic has come up many times since X3 was released.   And always the problem is what qualifiies as "recently purchased"?   It's a line that can never be set to everyone's satisfaction.   Plus, CW has always had that same 30 day (or so) grace period, so nothing's really changed from any previous upgrade.

You obviously wanted X2 and presumably thought the price you paid was worth it. You don't have to buy X3 - X2 will not stop working if you don't.
It was also reasonably obvious to any regular CW customer that X3 would be released roughly about now, especially as X2 was being increasingly discounted over the last few months, so personally I don't think they are obliged to give you anything. A little homework sometimes helps, but not always. Supply & demand - those are the breaks.

OK.. ya I'm not all upset and ready to slice my wrist over it by any means. Just wanted some feedback to keep myself in check. You guys have valid points. I have bought every upgrade since the early Cakewalk days so, I should have known better. Maybe I buy X3 next July (joke)..
    Thanks for responding....

    No problem.

I believe some are waiting for the first sale, probably in time for the holidays, since that's also a fairly consistent thing.

Cakewalk have lots of sales but upgrade specials are usually only just before release of new versions.

jazz, you must have your account set to not accept private messages.

I would say that you should contact support or pm one of the helpful bakers and make your case.  The worst that can happen is they say no and you wait for the sale.

It's always been some kinf of payable release every year as far as I remember - so we all know what to expect. Something happends between sept-dec of new releases.

They skipped the "buy x2 get x3 for free" thingy this time. I looked for that.

I think the best way is to see the discount in summer as your discount for x3. After all Cake's upgrade costs are very reasonable - and I'd like to say generous as well.

Look at Microsoft for a bit. Buying upgrades of windows cost 3-5 times what you pay for OEM version on a new computer. Office, Word or Excel cost something like 40% of new full price every upgrade.

Why not get use to X2 first.  Cakewalk will not disappoint in offering a very affordable upgrade eventually. I upgraded x1 to x2 for $79.

I constantly buy stuff which later goes on sale, even though I try to be smart and catch them... as they say, timing is everything... you should see my Cake purchases!

I look at it this way... never before could any of us dreamed of the power any one of the X series brings to our finger tips... and my scraping up the next bucket of duckets helps pay for all the hard working brains creating these amazing tools we couldn't have imagined we'd have available to us.

We're all contributing to advancing things along... and the age old regret of not waiting... will never end so I just don't go there... I'm glad it's here... and were paying peanuts for priceless advances in tools.

And, you don't need to upgrade yet... although... it's pretty f!!kin' awesome!!!!!!

I saw on the CW site somewhere that if you bought X2 within the past 3 months or more abouts your upgrade  to X3 is included.

I raised a similar issue, I purchased X2 studio upgrade in August, although different from this thread in that I believe X2a should still be more stable than it currently is, in that further patches and fixes such as an x2b should be still considered. X2 should still be supported for at least 1 year after announcement of X3 RTM...

In any case I bit the bullet and upgraded again X2 to X3 studio version (mind you it has only been 2 months since I last upgraded :( ) , I could see some biatching features that X2 Studio doesn't have that X3 Studio does, such as ProChannel and the ARA thing...

Just got to get my head into it now and lay some tracks...

Enjoy X2 for awhile. Get used to it. Then down the road upgrade to X3. That way you can at least feel like you got some use out of it. Besides, if you wait long enough X3 will come down in price near the release of X4.

FWIW, in my opinion, early adopters always get the best value ultimately. They get to use the product for the longest and get the best upgrade pricing and deals. Waiting for a special is ok but I wouldn't expect anything any time soon. We ran a special back in July when you purchased where you also got Z3TA+ 2 for free. So you didn't just pay $99 for the upgrade, you also get a free synth. We try to be as fair as possible. SONAR X2 still works and is supported so hopefully you get a lot of value out of that and if you decide to upgrade later, it will be when you are ready to do so.

Thanks again for your purchase. Hope this explanation helps.
