X2A and VS-700! =D

i'm reading through the list of fixes in X2a and just found this:

VS-700 & Control Surfaces
  • Can't navigate through ProChannel modules with EQ-button on VS-700C (CWBRN-11398, CWBRN-11014, CWBRN-11154)
  • VS-700C does not disarm/disable record or enable/disable input monitoring on Instrument Tracks (CWBRN-8219, CWBRN-9657)
  • The delay on VS-700C display when switching between tracks & buses has been improved (CWBRN-10098)
  • The VS-700C does not obey settings under: "Control Strips Visible in" in preferences (CWBRN-11397)
  • The Snap button on the VS-700 Surface does not work consistently (CWBRN-11400)
  • MUTE + SOLO state of Lanes when in Layer/Lane mode has been improved
  • ProChannel parameter and value names are now optimized for VS-700C display
  • ACT Controller configured no longer causes newly added Instrument Tracks strips not to set focus

Unfortunatelly I can't test it out yet, cuz I run windows8 (and the drivers for w8 aren't out yet, as you know)..
But anyways.... WOW!! We're not forgotten! XD

Finally I got X2a installed yesterday and spent a couple of hours on it.  I like the improvements a lot (ProChannel support, snap, faster display refresh, ACT support improved).

However, I did find a few things that still don't work - plus one crash. I'll put in problem reports now and post them here later so that you guys know what to expect and don't run into the same issues.

CWBRN-13965: Hidden strips on console break ACT control
    - Hide one channel strip on console view
    - Try controlling ACT parameters of plug-ins on channel strips to the right of hidden channel
As soon as there is one hidden channel strip, ACT control for strips to the right (strips with higher number) does not work
ProChannel control seems to be OK for higher strips, but [COMMAND] + EQ does not open ProChannel display (affects first channel in the console view)!

CWBRN-13966: Locking one channel strip breaks ProChannel and ACT control of entire VS-700C
    - Use [SHIFT] + [SEL] on VS-700C to lock a strip to a certain fader
Using [SHIFT] + [SEL] to lock a strip to a certain fader, totally breaks ProChannel and ACT control for ALL strips in the console view! No values are displayed on VS-700C, nothing can be controlled from knobs until channel locking is reset.

CWBRN-13967: Documented transport functions not fully supported on VS-700C
    - [SHIFT] + [PLAY]
    - [ALT] + [PLAY]
    Documented features not working:
[SHIFT] + [PLAY] does not do anything => "Audition"
[ALT] + [PLAY] does not do anything => "Play from Free Cursor"
See page 54 in VS-700 manual

CWBRN-13968: Moving clips with cursor on VS-700C crashes Sonar X2a
    - [SHIFT] + [SELECT] to enter clip selection mode
    - use jog and cursor to select clip
    - press [EDIT]
    - use left arrow (i.e. left cursor) on Vs-700C to move clip => X2a crashes

Note: to reproduce crash, nudge 1 must be set to "Follow Snap Settings" and "Snap" must be enabled (i.e. at "Measure")
Move by other nudge options (nudge 2 using [SHIFT] and nudge 3 using [CTRL]) does also not work
See page 63 of the VS-700 manual

CWBRN-13969: Selecting MIDI channel from VS-700C does not work
    - Create new MIDI track or insert new instrument track
    - Push [SEL] to select new track on VS-700C
    - Push [ASSIGN] to get to INPUT selection
    - Try changing MIDI channel by turning rotary
MIDI channel selection does not work; the VS-700C displays something I do not see on the screen. Turning the knob has no effect on MIDI channel selection.
Note: several MIDI devices in use, A-PRO 800, Octa-Capture, VS-700

Hi FreeFlyBertl - How is the VS-700 working after X2a is on the system?

I took the time to go over a lot of features that are documented in the manual to know what I'm up for when I embark for serious work with X2a.

Overall, I think it's a lot better than anything we had since X1 was released.  EQ, ACT, compression, saturation knobs all accessible & most other features working as documented, but ...

At the moment you need to stay away from hiding any strips in the console view or locking any strip with [SHIFT] + [SEL] (see my last post), which unfortunately means a very competitive feature of the VS-700 is not functional at the moment.

Also be careful with moving clips around from the VS-700C. Better use the mouse for the time being ...

I'm now having a problem where any ACT configuration changes I make are not saved.  If I make some changes for a plugin, close Sonar, re-open Sonar then the ACT configuration changes I made have been lost.  Anyone else got this problem? :-(

    Phil,

I could not reproduce that. I learned ACT controls for plugins from 3 different brands (IK, Line6, NI) and shut down Sonar without saving anything. Next time I used these plugs, ACT mapping was right there, same as previously set.

Mind you, I had some difficulties that I could not ACT learn one of the older IK plugs and Amplitube.

NI Guitar Rig didn't show turning faders on the GUI when turning rotaries on the VS-700, but after the Sonar restart, ACT settings were still there and all GUI knobs moved in sync with VS-700 rotaries.

Thanks for testing that FreeFlyBertl, I guessed that if it was a general problem other people would already be screaming...... I guess I'll try un-installing and re-installing, although I'm tempted to re-install X1 and ask for my upgrade money back........

Ok managed to fix it.  it appears that my genericpluginparams had somehow got corrupted.  I renamed the file, Sonar created a new file and ACT seems to work now.....

That explains why I wasn't having the problems. Brand new DAW here ... and I didn't transfer ACT mappings from the old DAW (although I had initially intended to)

Problem report was not fully accurate. Functionality is OK when not used with take lanes.
However, with take lanes functionality is not given. Even clip selection from VS-700 does not work.
