X2:Stuck in the confused LANE
Okay, so love the lanes however, I still can't seem to create and modify automation envelopes with consistent results. For example, let's say I have 3 automation lanes open on a track. Now I want to raise the volume for the next 8 bars. So I drag select the bottom half of the clip, then go to the volume envelope and move my mouse till it becomes the shelf tool and drag up. Sometimes nothing happens, sometimes whatever envelopes are there, all get modified! Another thing that happens is that when I want to raise or lower a section between two nodes (which I discovered you can do with the smart tool if you press CTRL ) sometimes nothing happens, when this occurs I touch one node and then the envelope seems to "wake up" and then it works as it should. Am I not understanding the adjustment methods? I've watched the "Transitioning" video numerous times and still can't get consistent results. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Also, how do you drag select without accidently croping the clip?

I'm not sure really. I'm not having any problems myself with adding automations to lanes. I mainly use the smart tool to add new nodes and then drag them to where I want them. So, for instance, if I want my audio clip to start at zero volume at measure 1 and then increase to -3db by measure 5, I open a new lane, make sure it is the volume envelope, which will probably be at 0db at first. I add a node at the 5th measure and drag that to -3db. The node at the start of measure 1 I'll then drag down to 0db. That's a simple example of course, but I find the rest of the actions I need to take like adding more nodes, deleting nodes, dragging, copying etc etc all work okay for me... You can record envelopes real time if you wish, but I like to draw them in myself.

nullobject Also, how do you drag select without accidently croping the clip? I'm not sure what you mean here. Is this the audio/MIDI clip on the main track? I'm at work a the moment and it will be some time before I can get to my DAW I'm afraid. Hopefully someone else will be able to help in the meantime. If not I'll see what I can do later.

Audio clip , you have to drag select, and if the section is right at the beginning of the clip, I'm cropping as I drag.

Yeah, I have no problem adding individual nodes, the problem is in trying to select say for example, 4 measures and create a shelf. Before, when you wanted to do that, you had to create 4 nodes, one at the end of the previous section, one at the start of the area of change, one at the end of the change, and one at the start of the next section. The shelf tool is supposed to do that with one move.

Hold CTRL to move just one section between nodes, hold ALT for freehand draw.

What happens if you drag across the automation lane itself and then use the shelf tool there as well? To drag a clip without cropping I think you should be able to grab it at the top header and go. The cursor should change to the directional arrows letting you know the clip can be moved. Is that what you're already doing? If so, does dragging it from near the middle (length-wise) make any difference?
