Those particular effects are not intended for use in tracking (recording), you use them downstream, AFTER the initial tracking for mixing/mastering.
They use too much resource and/or have look-ahead processing, which makes them unusable (by design) for the initial recording of tracks.
The questions posed in this thread come up QUITE often, and I would like to see the Cakewalk folks make some sort of a sticky thread that indicates the intended use of these effects. I believe that would save a lot of folks a lot of time and frustration.
