X2a Snap to in Staff View

Before downloading the X2a patch snap to in staff view seemed to work perfectly.  I waited until there was a demo version of X2 before purchasing because it is an important feature to me.  It worked fine in the demo and in X2, but now it doesn't.  I tried changing the settings, magnetic strength, resolution etc. but I still can't easily place a note on or within the beat with right clicking or quantizing.  Is there a solution?  Please help.

The same problem exists with SonarX1 which I've been sticking to becuase I can still use SonarPlus and it's note resolution buttons.  Recently, while working on an orchestral composition I became incredibly frustrated trying to move a 16th note into a series of 16th notes. It was stuck on a dotted 16th note resolution.  I tried turning off snap to, changing magnetic strength, nothing worked.  I got so frustrated that I thought maybe it was time to look at Cubase so I downloaded their trial version only to find that it required a usb dongle.  I didn't want to pay money for a dongle just to try it out.  My solution is to go back to Sonar 8.5 for producting orchestral scores.  No such problems with it.

Does the note just go anywhere in wierd places leaving crazy rests say a dotted 64th or even stranger? I create/drag notes around so I don't have to keep changing the note value. One time the snap broke and it would not snap properly.

I had a problem like this in X1. I fixed it by uninstalling X1 and re-installing it. Note, there is a way to uninstall it with instructions here on the forum somewhere.

The Snap To did seem to work when I first downloaded X2, but after X2a it seems to have stopped working.

@MFanning going to back to 8.5 would be a viable solution, but I've already grown accustomed to the new interface and spent the money on it. I just want the company to deliver what was advertised.

    Simply frustrating.

No, I can please the note reasonably close to where it is supposed to go.  It just that Snap To is supposed to make it easier to place notes on the beat or some specific division.

It's not the worst thing in the world to right click or quantize, but the only reason I purchased the X2 upgrade was because the feature was supposedly put back and improved--no such luck.

I agree with you totally.  I  am also accustomed to and like the X1 interface.  I was quite happy using X1 and its notation with SonarPlus until I encountered the problem moving notes and the snap to problem.   I would like to upgrade to X2, but have chosen to wait until Cakewalk does something to adress the SV issues that many here have complained about.  If they don't I won't.  Sad, considering I've bought every upgrade since Sonar 2.  The imperfect solution for me is to use both Sonar 8.5 and X1.

Sorry for the doublepost. IE9 seems to hang up when posting to this forum and when it reboots it posted the comment a second time. Strange.

If your snap setting is set to 1/8th and you place an 1/8th note and it lands somewhere else on another subdivision, you'll have to un-install it with the directions provided here somewhere and re-install it. That was the only fix I found for the same problem.

It appears that Cakewalk are performing the unimaginable - making staff view less functional and more buggy with each new release.  It's almost as if they are trying to get me to move to another Audio/MIDI application.  I've got PE 8.5.3 and X1 PE, but given the weirdness being reported with X2a and the staff view becoming less and less functional, I can't justify upgrading to X2 at this time.
