I'm sure glad they added "check for updates". Be sure to re-scan for plug-ins after the update.

So I guess the whole, keep your DAW off a network speech is a thing of the past since it automatically checks for updates now?

I Am ashamed to ask the question. ASHAMED! I know I'll get ridiculed for asking. Should I get the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7?

Bub So I guess the whole, keep your DAW off a network speech is a thing of the past since it automatically checks for updates now? Well if I would believe in the past, I would have 14 computers: - One at work
- One at home for work
- One as standalone DAW
- One for the Cakewalk forum
- One to try out new software and updates
- One to browse the internet for cracks, illegal downloads and images of nude women
- One to play games
- One for my home entertainment system so I can watch movies en listen to music
- One for my eldest son
- One for my younest son
- One for my daughter
- One for my wife for work
- One for my wife for online shopping
- One to manage al my computers
Maybe it's not a bad idea to combine some computing power............

Bub So I guess the whole, keep your DAW off a network speech is a thing of the past since it automatically checks for updates now? Just because.....I didn't say "automatically". I don't know about the network speech but I will say that I have other programs with the "check for updates" function so I will plug my DAW into the router and do the check. Sure is easy for me and nice to see X2 onboard. I read about the feature- haven't updated yet but fixin' to. If it's like I expect it'll be listed in the help menu and when you want to check for updates...click it.

Well X2a is working fine with my recordings, Ivory II, Symphonic Orchestra, True Piano's, Dimension Pro, and just basic fooling around....I can say this it seems to work better than X2, the cursors is more responsive, now time markers etc...for my needs and desires it's working out fine for me, no complaints here.

I was just thinking out loud how the whole daw setup ordeal seems to have changed. It seems the setup rules have changed drastically the last couple years. One of the big taboo's seemed to be keeping a nic out of your box, now its expected.

I've had a few small glitches, and had to rename a bunch of plug-ins to sort things out, but everything seems to be OK now after playing for about an hour.

Better check around to be sure Bill. Just because the box says upgrade on it, does not mean that you can do an "in place" upgrade of the OS. Case in point. Win 8 will do an in place upgrade of Win 7 Home Premium but NOT or Win 7 Professional. Tread lightly my friend.
