X3 Setting? Do not convert VSTs to VST3?

Is there a setting to stop Sonar from converting VSTs to VST3 when you open an older project? Some VST3s just don't work as well as others.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

If you've a VST2 and VST3 of the same tool, just go to the VST3 directory and remove it from there, if you only want to use the VST2 version.

    Preferences>VST settings>VST3 Migration
    couple of check boxes there.
Also you can exclude plugins in Plugin Manager.
Or, Rob is right move the dll's of VST3 plugs you don't want to use.
Of course, excluding or moving would make them unavailable to new projects.
BitFlipper once said; "Who needs VST3 anyway?" I think I have that right.
ARA requires that Melodyne be VST3?

I thought there was a check box to tell Sonar whether or not to replace X2 VST's with X3 VST's.

Maybe I am wrong - am away from where I can look into it at the moment.

I never thought about moving the VST3 file from it's folder. That's a good idea. I check the VST setting as well.

    Thank you!

Here is the documentation that shows the check box to tell Sonar what to do or not do with regard to VST 2 and VST 3 versions of plugins:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=Dialogs2.064.html

This should take care of it for you, as far as I can tell.

I really like the automatic categorization of VST3, and the fact that I can sidechain most relevant plugs.

That's why Bob and I referenced the "migration" option.
Personally I find the VST3 "organization" a PITA.
BUT, I'm not the only user.
AND, some VST3's are flakey in Sonar; SampleTank 3 for example.
Maybe Bit will let us know WHY we DON'T need VST3 (except for ARA of course).
I think Bit is still running 8.5 on an XP machine, I think I have that right...

@Guitarpima - happy to have found the link for you.  :)

@DeeringAmps - I don't myself have any particular need for plugins - outside of Melodyne - to be VST 3, rather than VST 2, at least I am not aware of any constraints that are hindering anything I do.  I currently have the check box checked for having Sonar replace any VST 2 plugins with the corresponding VST 3 plugins, if they are available when a project is opened.  If that ever causes issues for me, I will adjust accordingly.

I am currently LOVING LIFE with all 3rd-party plugins running as 64-bit, whether they are VST 2 or VST 3 does not matter to me - it is all just running SMOOTHLY.  :)
