I'm using it to re-record some old pieces, and make them sound just like they did on my Fostex X-26. Need a Wow&Flutter function though.

I just used it on the drum bus and the "brass" bus of an arrangement to a popular 80s soviet era pop song. On the drum bus I used NI's Abbey Road 60s drums with Waves HLS on the OH channel. On Brass, it smoothed out some of the harshness (if you're familiar with Kontakt's "Trumpet Section" patch in the band section, you know what I mean). Definitely went a long way in making the recording sound vintage.

I've been using it in vocals and for mastering. Generally, I've been bumping the record level by a tiny amount. It seems to fatten things up a little bit. You might want to add an EQ afterward to compensate for high end attenuation (+1 dB @ ~15K - shelf).

I've always liked using a tape sim on drums. I've normally put one on the drum bus, but I have been experimenting with using the PC Tape Emulator on individual drum tracks and setting it up differently for each one e.g. 15 IPS for hihat, 7.5 IPS for kit etc. There is an article on Cake Blog about this. I have also been trying it on master bus, acoustic guitar and electric piano with good results. I'm thinking of trying it on electric guitar going through an amp sim, perhaps using 7.5 IPS, to see what it does to the "fizzy" high frequencies. All in all, I'm liking it a lot.

I use it on the drum bus for this 12-song project I'm working on now. It sounds pretty good. I've put it on the Master bus as well and so far like what I hear. Can't wait to test ride it properly when mixing. To me, it seems to be a great Bus effect, or to just throw it on the master. I have the Kramer Master Tape and love it on drums, vocals and the master bus. I'll do some A/B testing eventually. A mix of the two could be interesting

First - I write and perform new county music. On one of the amps I use, a Fender evil Twin, it seems the digital world playback can be a little too clean on this amp. Even when I use a beat up old sm57 on it. I don't have the same problems with Marshalls and the like, just that 100 watt box. Part of it is the tube configuration I like to run live. So, I tried the tape emulator on a particularly CLEAN take, and it took the 'digital' out nicely. Pulled the guitar presence back just a wee bit and I was impressed. Best Regards, L

Just noticed something: It seems to magically take the annoying edge off my tambourine recordings!

I've used it on drums, bass, guitar and vocals on different songs (not all at the same time). I like to experiment with it depending on what sound I'm looking for at the time. I'm usually recording metal or hard rock and find a lot of uses for it.

I used it on some old 1/2 track mixes I still had lying around... trying to home *master* them. Made 'em sound a generation down...like a bounce. ;-/

Typically have it on my drum buss. I used to use TB ReelBuss but I find the PC Tape Sim to be more subtle. ReelBuss may be more accurate though. I also use a touch while mastering to tame the highs and glue everything together.
