X3, no sound= bug?

On occasion, I'll upon a project in X3 and there is no sound. It has to do with an effects bus. I can undo the effect, then I get sound. I can delete it then put it back, and all is fine. Is this a known bug in X3 (Studio). It doesn't seem to matter what project or bus I use, it seems to randomly happen after I open 5-6 charts. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

Don't know if Studio has Pro Channel but if it does and you have Concrete Limiter inserted into Pro Channel on that bus, I deal with that.
I reported it as a bug, it has been acknowledged/reproduced by Tech Support and I'm waiting for a fix.

If this has nothing to do with what you're experiencing, never mind.

Definitely not a known bug that I'm aware of. Alex (forum host) keeps a list of known and user repeated bugs.

Cakewalk itself keeps a list of items in development but it includes on-going development efforts and so is not public.

Do you ever have the problem if you press E to bypass all FX?

Which effect is causing it.

Sometimes, unlicensed/demo fx have a built in 'feature' to interrupt audio after the demo period expires. This can be pretty aggrevating, especially if you believe it should either still be working in demo mode or don't realize it's a demo.

This year, I bought a large set of plugins from Nomad and they included demo plugins with my install package that were demo, that were not included in my purchase and I could not choose to not install. If I wanted the plugins I paid for, I had to let them install ad-ware.

Pretty cool, huh?

Now, if your effect is the Concrete Limiter, there were cases a long time ago where that bad boy would mess up and prevent sound going through even though it was properly installed etc. etc. I believe that bug has been fixed for a long time, though.

Which version of X3 are you on?

Thanks for the responses. I'm up to date with X3e, have only had it a few weeks. No error message. I have Boost 11 on the master (It's temporary for me), and I haven't tried the FX bypass yet. It's usually a reverb effect and it doesn't seem to matter what kind (Nomad, Sonitus, 3rd party) etc. It's odd. As I said, just turning the reverb off restores sound, and then I can delete and re-install it, but it's more of a nuisance than anything else.

That really shouldn't be the case at all. I would call Cakewalk Support. They'll help you get it sorted out. That should not be something you have to live with. I know I wouldn't.

Thanks. I'll watch it and see if I can come  up wit more info i.e. patterns of when this behaviour happens. Yeah, I don't plan on living with it.  I'll try and get more info before I call so that I can get a solution.

This is one random hint I got from the guy who owns the Syntorial App company (a game for learning to program synth patches). Basically, when I had some odd experience with his app, he had me create a new USER ACCOUNT on my PC. I fixed everything right up for me. Apparently, there must be some digital rights management stuff associated with your Windows Profile. Years of installing demo plugins and who knows what else must have taken it's toll. Creating the new account made my issue go away.

I don't really think this will help you, but I share it because it's random and I found it interesting. I never would have believed it would help me.

THanks. The computer is only 1 month old, so there has been very little as far as demos etc, in fact none.  Other than this problem it seems to be running great. Windows 8.1 i5 3.2 ghz, 8 gigs RAM, so I don't think there is anything wrong there. I've been using Cakewalk since the midi-only days so I doubt it's me, but one never knows.

Not fixed yet and no available timetable, I spoke to Tech Support about that last week.

Interesting, I use it every day and haven't had the issue in years. Just getting lucky I guess.

gswitz,
I have issues when I reload a ProChannel preset that has Concrete Limiter in it. The left meter pegs and doesn't pass a signal. I even tried setting up a blank preset with nothing in it other than eq (turned off), load it and then load the preset with CL in it, same behaviour.

I guess I don't use PC Presets much on the main bus. I usually drag my Plugins from the browser into the Pro Channel. I just right click to add the CL.

The FX I pick on any given project are so varied and randomly picked. I just go rooting around in the arsenal for things that might fight the jam and start tweaking them.

I just went to try to repeat it and GOOD GOLLY THERE ARE A LOT OF PC PRESETS IN THERE! THANKS CRAIG!!

I should add, I totally believe you. If support says it's a bug, it must be. I wasn't able to repeat just now but... shrug.
