X3d takes a long time to start playing old projects

Hi,

I wrote a post sometime ago (can't find it) regard this issue.
Every time I open  an old project (from x2, x1 or before), X3d won't start before it finishes drawing the wave pictures.
On a big project this can take a long time.
Sometimes it starts but I immediately get a dropout.
My system is powerful and it is fine-tuned (adkproaudio):
Intel i7-4930K @ 3.40GHz
32GB Ram
Win 7 64bit

Any ideas?

regards, joni

    Here is your old thread. You are still having the issue after the advice from that (scook's post)?

    Yes, still having the issue after Scook's advise.

    In AUD.INI : ComputePicturesWhilePlaying=1

    This value is suppose to be 1 right?

    thanks

    Check the link in his post (I copied the below from that link)... there are actually three variables to check:

    In Aud.ini:
    EnablePicCacheThreads=1 (default)
    ComputePicturesWhilePlaying=1 (default)

    In Cakewalk.ini:
    ProgressiveWavePictures=1 [default]

    If those three values are set properly, you may have a plug-in causing the issue as Noel suggested. You can try bypassing plug-ins (E) to see if the transport will play smoothly when opening a project.

    I have two (2) cakewalk.ini:

    C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer
    &
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\MicrosoftCakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\

    Which one is it?

    I just checked, my [WinCake] section is EMPTY (no commands there).

    Do I add the line:
    ProgressiveWavePictures=1

    ?

    Sorry, I was away for a bit. The easiest way to add that one is internal to X3.

    Edit->Preferences-> (Advanced Mode)->File->Initialization File

       In the "Option" field, enter "ProgressiveWavePictures"
       In the "Value" field, enter 1
       then "Set" "Apply" and close and reopen SONAR X3

    Mine was not there as well, so I am "assuming" no entry means that it is defaulting to its "1" value, but not sure of this.

    I just checked and that only modifies the instance in "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer"

    Adding it to the other Cakewalk.ini file (in Program Data) required me to save it to the desktop and overwrite it as administrator.

    Everyone does, the first one is the master copy used to create the second one during the (re)personalization process. SONAR reads the second one and is the one to change. There is a screen in Preferences > File > Initilization File for modifying the Cakewalk.ini. However ProgressiveWavePictures=1 is the default so adding it to the file should not change anything. Not really sure what is happening. It still may be a picture cache issue, maybe the cache is too small. Or as Noel suggested it might be plug-in related. Do the projects open fast in safe mode?

    Try emptying your picture cache folder. It might be full or the disk might be highly fragmented causing sluggishness.

    Thanks.
    I will try that tomorrow morning,
    Maybe I'll also move the pic folder to a new drive, different from the audio drive.
