XI - European sales unexpectedly high: CW plan worked?
I ordered my X1 upgrade a couple of weeks ago from local UK supplier Etcetera. I was told to expect it this week, but this morning I had the email below. I assume this means the take up in Europe vindicates the heavy touring by the baker ambassadors and their aim of targeting the hordes of non-Sonar users in Europe? If so the Feb fixes need to be on time before all the newbies get restless! You recently ordered a Sonar X1 Upgrade and we were expecting new stocks last week, but I was disappointed to be informed by Roland UK that the expected shipment did not arrive as planned. Last night I received an email from Michael Crouch – Cakewalk’s Worldwide MI Account Manager who said: “I am writing to apologize for the shipping delays from the Cakewalk fulfillment center in Galway. Due to the SONAR X1 demand in Europe, we have experienced a shortage of materials to assemble and ship the product. The good news is that components have been flown in from America and the problem is resolved. I expect Roland UK to have new inventory this week.” I therefore hope that we will receive our allocation early next week and we will ship to you as soon as they arrive. Thank you for your patience. Kind regards, Peter Butler Managing Director Et Cetera Distribution Limited

Well I suppose that is actually good news, even though you have be ever so patient. If they sell more than they anticipated means more money for Cakewalk which means more money for development. And that means bug fixing and patches... hopefully

Sky, loads of companies stuff is delayed at the moment. I bought 3 big selling items and they took over 2 weeks to be in the shop / stock. the longest I had to wait for an item... 1 year.. RME kept putting off the AIO card.. so I didn't buy it in the end. the retailers are now more cautious of stocking things as look what happened to turnkey

Well, it's now been three weeks and still no delivery. Hm, cock up or conspiracy theory? If Roland sit on deliveries then it least it might stop even more gripe traffic here! But it'll get a bit difficult holding back deliveries until March when the big patch appears.... Seriously, it's p*ss poor service whichever way you look at it.

X1 Upgrade Deliveries in the UK - Three weeks (or more?) Backlog??

It's one thing to upset customers about shortcomings in X1, it's a shot in the other foot for CW/Roland to have its UK distribution in a total and utter bloody mess. I ordered my upgrade three weeks ago form Et Cetera, the UK dealer. I was told by them a week ago there were glitches in CW getting supplies to Roland UK (i.e. to their fulfillment depot in Ireland) but all was resolved. But still nothing. Zilch. Has CW got a death wish or something? Why do I continue with this abusive relationship? Or maybe deliveries are now suspended altoghether until the new version in March. Will someone from CW have the decency to tell this customer of eight years what is going on here?

I understand you're frustrated with waiting so long for your upgrade, but frankly, I don't know what the issue is with our European distribution partners. I'll see what I can do to garner some more information on the situation, though.

Due to extremely high demand we were sold out of X1 upgrades. The latest production run has just finished and they will be going out to our European partners this week. Thanks for your patience.

Strange. I ordered my Sonar X1 Producer box on 2010-12-29 and received it promptly (in London) if I recall correctly. On the side of the box it said "Product of Ireland" in large letters. I also ordered the download which was speedy enough considering the sheer number of gigabytes involved.

Seth, I've just found at the problem is with some 'jobsworth' at Roland UK. Et Cetera's Managing Director chased them only to be told that yes, they'd had a shipment from CW but they couldn't release them for despatch to retailers because they "...hadn't received Cakewalk's invoice yet so couldn't book them into stock." I ran my own business for many years and if I found a clerk had done such a dumb thing I think I might have cuffed them 'round the ear!

Ah, man, that sucks. Hopefully your situation gets sorted and you receive your upgrade ASAP.
