XILS 3.2 update and XILS 4 coming soon

I was a bit confused at first but there is a free upgrade to XILS 3 owners now to 3.2. XILS 4 will be released by the end of May (I think)

who once used a real Synthi A. As an XILS 3 LE owner only the price of the upgrade to the full version and the requirement for a dongle has stopped me from upgrading.

XILS 4 looks like it will be a big step forward with two core synths. Assuming the matrix patching enables routing between them it could be very powerful, so I will be watching carefully. 149 euros plus the cost of a dongle means it won't be a cheap upgrade, so it will need to pretty good.

I remember getting the XILS (LE??) from Audio Midi on one of their no-brainers and liked it a lot, but it was a CPU hogger and never really used it. IIRC, it had some great pads......of course, that was on my old Vista machine with only 4GB of RAM and I don't remember it needing dongle though......

No - the LE version (the one I have) just needs a serial number. The upgrade to the full version always struck me as expensive.

Its good for processing external signals too if you patch it in as an audio effect.

Reserecting this thread as more specifications have become available.

    • 12 Aliasing free Oscillators, grouped in 6 pairs, with WaveShaping, 3*2 Hard synchronization modes, + 2 additional Noise oscillators
    • 2 Analog Multimode Filters, Non Linear and zero delay Behaviors, with 3 Modes (6/12/24 dB)
    • 4 Trapezoidal, looping, Envelope Generators. ( Switchable to standard ADSR )
    • 5 Polyphonic LFOs ( including 4 Oscillator acting as LFO at audio rate )
    • Polyphonic Ring Modulator and VCA engine
    • Cascade Mode : Synthesizer 1 can feed Synth 2 engine inputs
    • 4 independent outputs feeding the Stereo Bus, each with one analog Lp/Hp filter
    • 2 Programmable Joystick Vector Controllers ( up to 32+32 modulation targets )
    • Polyphonic Sequencer with 3 independent lines, Slew rates, 3 recording modes.
    • Sequencer can behave as modulation source.
    • Pitch Tracker, Enveloppe Follower, Transient, Gate, Sample & Hold Modules
    • Chorus, Delay, Phaser, Spring Reverb
    • 6 Play modes (including Unison 2/4/6 ), Polyphonic and mono Portamento/Glissando/Legato, 2 different Keyboard Scaling, Polyphonic Aftertouch and VCA handling.
    • 700+ presets made by worldwide famous Sound Designers
    • Preset Database Engine ( Find the right patch in a flash, create your own tags )
    • Comprehensive manual with a getting started and tutorial sections
    • More than 100 parameters mappable to midi controllers
    • More than 1100 possible connexions per patch ! ! !

Given the modulation routing it should be a beast and a half both as a synth and a effects processor. However I am not entirly how the two synth cores are cascaded. The screenshots of the matrix here all seem to relate to one core, the most power would come with totally flexable routing between the two cores. I think a play with demo is in order.

I wonder if its my nostalgic connection to EMS synths that is really peaking my intrerest in this product. Its gonna cost me 149 Euros plus I will have to buy a dongle, in reality I might be better off learning Reaktor.
