XP Sp3 and X1 - SP3 install error

Decided to take the plunge and upgrade to X1 producer, forgetting that Windows XP was only on SP2 still, and the reason being that everytime I had previously tried to load SP3 I got the following error message:
There is not enough disk space on C:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$ to install ServicePack3.  Set up requires a minimum of 4 additional megabytes of free space, or if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation, setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space. Free additional space on your hard drive and try again.

So X1 wants to see SP3 to install, and the SP3 installation still gives me the following message.  I've got about 30gig of free space on the C drive!

One important point which could be a factor is that my XP is set up via BootCamp on a Mac Pro (1.1 dual core Xeon)

Anybody got any ideas!  I'm going to try downloading SP3 and loading manually, rather than going through Windows update, but I'm not holding out much hope of that being any better!

Ok A bit more research undertaken and it looks like I'll have to update my BootCamp to 2.1 to instal SP3.

Sometimes really don't like having to running Sonar on a Mac, but still need the Mac for my dayjob!

Just to add to your (and possibly my) woes, SP3 is uninstallabe, so why it wants to "if you also want to archive the files for uninstallation, setup requires 4 additional megabytes of free space" is a bit of a mystery.

I've got to install SP3 tonight/tomorrow, although this is on a Windows machine and not via Windows update, but manually from the 316Mb download.

I'll let you know how I get on.

PLEASE backup EVERYTHING before you start - C: Drive, REGISTRY, system state etc.

I did the same with much trepidation.
manually, instead of windows update. like Bristol_Jonesey.
got a registry limit reached error.
    all seems fine though.

    Ok, good news (for me)

SP3 installed without a hitch. I did a full system backup, set a restore point and simply ran the .exe (after copying it across from my internet pc to the DAW)

Rebooted, the inital boot took a little longer than normal, but no surprise there really, susbsequent boots were, if anything, a bit snappier than before.

Ran Sonar - panicked when my mains meters were clearly showing a signal, but nothing out of the Monitors, until I remembered I had to boot the Saffire BEFORE booting the pc.

After that, Sonar was back to normal, and like the OS, maybe just a little more responsive. Perhaps that's just wishful thinking on my part - but it's certainly no worse!

I've done several, lengthy editing sessions - V-Vocal tweaks, automation, exporting, bouncing etc, and even a bit of tracking, and all is well.

So that's my story lads - I'm now awaiting my copy of X1

That is brilliant news. Hope X1 arrives soon.
I think my BootCamp upgrade MAY be slightly more problematic, but I've got everything backed up now, so I'll probably try and get it sorted tomorrow evening. Looking forward to trying X1

I've now finally received my Mac OS update in the post, and upgraded BootCamp from the 1.4 Beta to 3.1.

Once that was done, loaded up Service Pack 3 without any problems and then loaded up X1 followed by X1a.

    So far no problems!
