XP setting to stop USB devices powering down?

Hi guys,

In Vista, there are LOTS of setting in the power schemes edit window, but in XP, it seems that there is screen and hard disks, and nothing else.

Are there any hidden settings for stopping USB devices powering down? In general, it is annoying when my storage disks power down all the time, but more importantly, a lot of M-Audio USB devices seem to "stop" after a while if not used (especially MIDI connections, which seem to get lost and then not reconnected).

Thanks,

Martin

I didn't know that USB ports powered down like this... the only thing I can think of is to check and make sure your hibernation is set to "off." Maybe there's a BIOS setting on your motherboard that sets this.

Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers

It's not there for every device listed, but 'Power Management' appears as a tab for any instance of "USB Root Hub" in that area, and there's a box to check to allow the computer to turn it off to save power. Select a "USB Root Hub", right click, then click "Properties".

Yep, Jessie's got it. Make sure you repeat for each hub...
