XotoPad Anyone?

Has anyone else tried XotoPad? It's a touchscreen midi pad controller that you can customize to send notes or CC messages. For example you can set it up so that when you drag up and right it sends CC1 and CC11 messages, increasing the modulation and expression at the same time. I've just tried it on my touchscreen with Hollywood Winds stand-alone. I liked it so much that I wnet ahead a registered it. I think it is going to help to create more realistic performances.

The next step for me is to download ipMIDI from http://nerds.de/ That should allow me to send the controller messages over my LAN from my Surface Pro into Sonar.

If you haven't seen touch screen controllers, you can watch one being used in this East West video: See the second video on the page. There are controllers available for iPad of course. If you are using one with Sonar, how are you using it?

how are you getting on with this? Did you get it working over wifi with the surface?
I'm considering something similar.... but the only option for midi over WiFi I've seen involved using Apple Bonjour drivers (which i'm not keen on)
If you have a working Microsoft solution, please share!

OK I've finally had some time to experiment with this....
I've used this for the MIDI to WiFi transmission between my tablet (running Xotopad demo) and my PC:
    https://www.humatic.de/htools/mnet/download.php
Seems to work well (so far....)
Using a combination of web articles and help files, I've got ACT working, and can control Sonar parameters from the onscreen controls on the tablet (which is pretty cool!)

Only thing I'm a little disappointed about is the lack of 'feedback' from Sonar back to the tablet. I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I'm assuming if you had a hardware controller with motorised fades, the Sonar would be transmitting output back to the controller to move the faders in response to automation or on screen changes?
I was hoping that Xotopad would do the same - but it doesn't appear to.
Are there any specific settings in Sonar/ACT that I may need to configure to make this happen?
I'm going to contact Xotopad to see if their software is even capable of receiving this kind of data, but any thoughts / suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Paul

In short, in you have Android or iPad, try TouchDAW or other Mackie Control (!) emulator. Will cost much less, looks better and has feedback.

Only stock Mackie Control plug-in does that.

My plug-in can do this as well, in case

the answer is positive. But you will have to configure it yourself.

Thanks azslow3 - just had a brief read through some of the documents on your site - looks like an extensive (and very useful) platform you've developed. Not sure if I need that level of configuration, but it's good to know it is available.
I'll wait to hear back from Xotopad on what is possible, and then I'll move on from there.

    Thanks again

Xotopad has just confirmed that current release has no facility for midi input / feedback.
He did say it was a good idea and might consider it in future.... but for now it's not going to work.
I'm a strictly 'Microsoft' user, so TouchDAW is not an option for now, so I'll continue experimenting with Xotopad and see if it might be worth investing in....

    There are:
    http://www.surface-editor.net/
    and
    http://ctrlr.org/

The first is somehow limited and no longer active project. But you can get it running relatively fast.

The first impression from the second one (I have just found it) - it is a hammer

Both support MIDI and OSC, in both directions. And both are free (Xotopad looks very expensive for what it does). You will need AZ Controller on Sonar side (also speaks MIDI and OSC, in both directions).

But if you are not a programmer, probably giging for $70 Android tablet + $5 for TouchDAW is simpler then paring Ctrlr with AZ Controller with reasonable configuration

But... I have already checked that it possible (I have a knob in ctrlr which control the volume of focused track in Sonar, with feedback). So I will have a look when I have time (next year) and may be publish an example ctrlr panel + AZ controller preset for it.

Wow - a whole new world of possibilities!

I'm not a 'programmer' - but I have worked in IT for 20+ years (and have done a little development in the past).
I would be really interested to see where you've got to with the CTRLR panel, and be more than happy to try and work on things alongside you - perhaps between us we can come up with some kind of generic Sonar controller configuration?

I will too look at downloading CTRLR and AZController and see what I can get working.

Thanks very much for highlighting these....
