Ya'll are killin' me!!!
Im trying to hold off on the X2 upgrade for a little bit. I am trying to decide whether I want to get Melodyne or Antaris (or however ya spell it) for my birthday in November. Still not sure which is better for my needs. I want some real time FX for recording so I can just plug in some notes and let it keep a singer on the money for the song. All this WONDERFUL and positive chatter Im seeing is pushing me in the wrong direction

melodyne doesn't work real time. I know Antares Auto Tune says it does, but I've never tried it. If I were going for a real time pitch correction, I'd look at hardware. like TC Helicon or Digitech.

I guess I need to learn how to use it. See just another reason to surrender to the X2 gods

for pitch correction in X2 I use melodyne. it's the best one, IMO, tho I admit I've not used all of them. but for real time, yeah, I'd go with hardware.

I used V-vocal for a long time, even tho I had a version of melodyne. the version of melodyne I had was not a vst, it had to be used stand alone (or rewire, but that never worked well). so I prefered to use v-vocal since it was so much more convenient. but since I "upgraded" to the new version of melodyne and I can use it as a vst, I use it exclusively now. I had more "artifact" issues with v-vocal than I do with melodyne.

I did research and read the forum threads on which pitch correction to use before I laid my hard earned dollars down. I wanted a straight ahead no artifacts fix for a vocal and make it sound good, and natural. The one I settled on was Melodyne. I bought it as Melodyne Plug In... they sent me a few upgrades and I ended up with Melodyne Editor on the last upgrade. It's transparent and everything I could want in a pitch correction package. I don't often work on a vocal track that doesn't get the melodyne treatment..... especially the lead vocals no matter how good they sound before it.....they always sound better after. Note: I do occasionally let a BGV slide by without fixing it. It adds ambiance to let some vox tracks be slightly out of tune. Editor does melodic solo stuff like voice and sax as well as the poly stuff like piano and guitar. Just yesterday, I was working on a dobro part where the player (live player) was flat on a few notes and on one slide up was also a bit flat. I grabbed the audio in a 3 measure clip and let Editor display it as poly. I identified the flat notes, including the one with the slide...and corrected it perfectly as if it was played correctly from the start. In my humble opinion....Editor is worth every dollar it costs.
