Yearly Orbital Soundscape No. 1

Here's something I recently completed. It's a "space jam" that includes an experimental song with electric guitar and saxophone. Except for the soundscape bed, which was recorded by a friend on an old Tascam Reel to Reel, the project was done with Sonar X1 PE. http://soundcloud.com/mar...rbital-soundscape-no-1

As a soundscape it works quite well and the mix appears balanced here.

It does feel like it needs a little something extra to hold the listeners attention in the open sequence.  Perhaps bring up that Bass a little..

When the guitars come in it adds that extra dimension.  The Sax sounds a little detached an not quite in the same space as the backing and guitar.

All of the above is of course totally subjective and is only my opinion.

Thanks for sharing and I did enjoy it.

I don't think it's a cricket. That part of the song is manipulated sound recordings - with speed and pitch adjustments - on an old school reel to reel. It was likely some other sound that ended up sounding cricket-like.

This is right up my alley. I loved a lot of it.

I like dark ambient and i've made a few tracks my self in a similar vien.

To be honest though, i think the guitar is too obtrusive and i really would have prefered this without  it in.

The sax parts worked better for me, especially in the first section, but i think it's a bit too loud when it comes in for the longer solo after the guitar. I think it needs more ambience to give it a distant sound. These are just personal taste issues though and others may totally disagree.

That said: I found a lot to enjoy in this.
