Yes Private/Coffin/Golden Sun

Hi peeps, Just gave my Myspace an overhaul and put a selection of tracks up (fairly old ones but not been online before). As always i would greatly appreciate any mix/production feedback/comments from anyone! If you can be patient with the track "Yes Private" the tune proper starts after a min or so and vocals eventually come in, i like to think its worth the wait anyway! :) http://www.myspace.com/mrmrkelly Nice Matt

The Link you gave us doesn't show us these songs you've asked about. It does show Coffin, but not Yes Private or Golden Sun.  I had to click on "music" in your sidebar to get to them.

When I got to your page that plays your music, none but Octopus would play. Well, it was educational, anyway.

Coffin does play on the first page, but if you'll pardon me, I'll pass on this one. I'm a woman, you see, and the language was a bit much for me.

    Link works, now.

You want mix/production feedback.  Well, all I can write are my impressions:

Yes Private sounds tinny somehow.  So much so I'm even thinking I'm hearing steel drums.  At 2:20 it started getting nice with the fuller harmony.
Right afterward, the speaking starts. Isn't that a little long for him to wait to come in? It's not like anything profoundly interesting was happening to entertain us while we waited.
That was some theatrical voice, there, barking out the fight speech.
The vocals were interesting. They fit with the scheme of the song, too.
The ending was your prettiest part.

Golden Sun sounds like someone tinkering in the kitchen, baking something, to a guitar intro. The guitars sound great. It sounds like this for the entire song. I guess it's a sketch that you're going to build later. But it sounds clear as crystal from my end. I heard every noise (that kitchen tinkering) clearly. They were interesting noises, at least. And I felt they were happening right in my face, so clear they were.

Okay, maybe the noise was more like setting up a tent.

Thanks for the feedback, just the kind of criticism i am after. Yeah, i know what you mean in regards to Yes Private, does take a little bit too long before the vocals come in. I have also been considering putting in an additional bass line to warm/thicken up the song. Problem is its hard to change the general sound of a song when you get used to it!

You are completely right in regards to Golden Sun though, this was just tinkering about (with live instruments though). I had no idea where it was going, It could probably sound better/more song like with some vocals.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen :)

    Matt

I don't know how I got that Octopus song, either. But when I clicked on your link for music in the sidebar, it took me to a page with that song. Strange, it doesn't do it now. I wonder what I did wrong....

No matter. I enjoyed the very musical guitars and strange goings-on in your Golden Sun. Very clear.  And I liked both your speech and speaker in Yes Private. Very theatrical.
