You don't mention whether you're using SONAR x86 or x64.
I'm using SF 10 and I've been using this technique since first available in SONAR. I think it was in SF 6 or something.
I always have SF open along with SONAR and set SONAR to share drivers. Other than a bunch of work around a to get it in the options menu in X1 I don't have a problem. Make sure that it is not a groove. Lip that you're working with in SONAR as they won't be sent across to SF.
Seems like something you're not quite doing right.
