Yet another reason to not like Protools

When I was considering Protools the website kept changing the currency from USD to EU, which makes a huge price difference to me buying in South African rands because USD is much cheaper to us than EU.

I emailed Avid about it and after about 6 days their response was basically "That's the way it is"...

I just don't like companies who have that attitude - others may disagree.

Not just the company their forum ("duc?) was terrible.  Lots of fanbois and self appointed police to slap you.
When they added a score view I had issues with huge CPU usage doing anything.  Would peg at 80%.  My old Cubase at 4%.  Their response was pretty much yours:  oh well, sad day for you.

That was awhile ago, so maybe it's changed?   Probably not....

they bought out m-audio (and sold on) they couldn't be bothered to support it / give a decent reply.

their interfaces are designed to run best with their own products.

it's marketing also.. someone asked me the other day "oh so you use protool".. because they heard it on tv..

much like you see AVID at the end of the movie.. there are other solutions... e.g. final cut pro

I had to "rent" ProTools for projects a client was sending me.  I got to be pretty fluent in it.  I have to admit it is stable and some Wave Plugins sound better to me in ProTools.  But I won't be renewing my subscription...$300 is way too much for just one year, it's very clunky if you want to compose in it (or do simple things like add a buss) and AVID just is hard to deal with.

The only reason to get/use/rent ProTool is because it's the standard platform.
and it looks like you can import/export to and from Sonar. (OMF) if I read that right...
it's easy to lean and it's free at the low low end, but that's a good way to learn in your spire time... like we all have that... lol

RE: PRO TOOLS :
I  discovered the following from very recent, personal experience .............( Don't ASK !!) .....I don't wanna talk about it... :(
FYI:
As a loyal Cakewalk / Sonar Muso-hobbyist  for many years.....I believe I can safely and unreservedly express... 'Pro Tools' is at the very least is 'CLUNKY'"............or perhaps "CLUMSY" .........or some may go further and say "CRAPPY".
I believe I misread the Pro Tools name in thinking it was a sentinel of 'Pro - fessionalism'. I NOW realize its aims were more 'Pro-vincialism'.
And YES.........I now ... ( why didn't I see it sooner....OR just simply Listen to the Forum) ....see how it is grossly over rated.........." I SEE THE LIGHT" !!!
As a very telling example supporting my above rating and perhaps the glaring indifference of PT Corporates to the 'painful' plebs paying for and using their product, I present this modest yet powerful case.
Abridged Version:
So, Your Pro Tools is open and you are in the middle of  magnificent edit ...........phone rings .....client on phone.. she needs info.
You ( NATURALLY ) minimize Pro Tools to check something else on your PC. You get info and pass it on to client.
Now......Back to my music project........Hit Pro Tools on Task Bar............. nothing happens...........Hit It again.........nothing happens.
I'll spare you the rest.................. BUT.....apparently... (Thnx GOOGLE) ... this painful issue has been with PTs for some years ..........but NOT FIXED.
WHY has it not been fixed.
I don't BLINKING  care why ...............regardless........It  shows a phenomenal lack of support and interest in the high paying customers of Pro Tools.
It also p@%es me off as an issue   I don't need........Yes..........something the amazing Cakewalk team would have smoothed in a very timely fashion.
Cheers.....Frank in OZ
